As always, check prices before you order! You can also check EBay and Amazon in case you find a lower price there, but make sure it’s for the same company and test. Some of the companies show an end date for their sale prices, but many don’t. Amazon loves to raise and lower prices on DNA tests on a somewhat regular basis, usually every few days for some of the major companies, bit less often for other companies.
As of February 28, 2019 (original post was on February 1, 2019, and will be modified as needed, usually daily or every other day), the following companies are offering DNA sales. Also, check EBay as you can often find AncestryDNA kits cheaper on it. In general, you can usually find Buy It Now AncestryDNA kits around $45 – 55 on EBay (make sure it’s an AncestryDNA kit as EBay searches often pull up other companies’ kits when using Ancestry DNA as your search parameter); for the auctions, it can vary widely depending on how an auction goes.

LivingDNA – https://www.livingdna.com/ regular price is $99; cheaper on FindMyPastDNA for $89. LivingDNA or FindMyPastDNA used to be available on Amazon – https://www.amazon.com/3-Living-DNA-Ancestry-Test/dp/B07HWVRPNZ/ (available on Amazon as of February 28, 2019). LivingDNA offers free limited transfers, but you won’t get a few benefits if you go this route that you would get if you order the test directly from LivingDNA; they have indicated they will offer discounted upgrades for those who transfer and want the extra benefits, but no word on when or how much it will cost). For example, you won’t get haplogroups (mtDNA, Y-DNA – if male) and originally you wouldn’t get ethnicity results when I did a free transfer back in December 2017, but looks like they may be offering ethnicity results for the free transfers during the beta test (it’s not clear if you get to keep the ethnicity results after the beta test ends and it doesn’t appear those who upload after the beta test will get them without paying some kind of upgrade fee) after your transfer processes (estimated between August 8 – October 31, 2018 for the free transfers to process; they are rolling them out in small groups). You would have to order a kit from LivingDNA to get those benefits. They are partnering with FindMyPast and FindMyPast will be offering LivingDNA kits packaged with FindMyPastDNA (or some similar language) at some point, similar to how MyHeritageDNA uses FTDNA kits with MyHeritage logo on the package. They are slowly rolling out matching starting August 8, 2018 and plan on finishing by sometime in October 2018. Two of my three transferred results are showing three (3) or two (2) matches, but only one has finished processing as of February 28, 2019 and it only has one match. One of the transfers has zero (0) matches!

They have offered free uploads several times in the past and will probably do it again in the near future. Note: this isn’t a DNA test, but uses your raw data from other companies (23andMe, Ancestry, FTDNA, etc.) to generate reports.

TribeCode – Tribecode – $99 regular price for Advanced Ancestry; kit is ordered through TeloYears (see above) and appears to be the Ancestry/ethnicity portion only. Not available on Amazon. Once you order the kit from TeloYears and register it, you qualify to earn TribeCoins which can be used for a variety of purposes. You can also earn TribeCoins, by logging into TribeCode and going to the Community section. Logging in daily to TribeCode generally generates 1 TribeCoin/day.
uBiome – https://ubiome.com/consumer/explorer/ regular prices ranging from $89 to $399 with new option for ExplorerGutPlus*** https://shop.ubiome.com/pages/explorer-plus (4 SmartGut tests delivered during the year for $399 sale price – valid as of February 28, 2019, regular price $799), depending on which tests you want run; sometimes goes on sale for a lot less. If you go with one of the subscription options, you get 20 – 25% discount; doesn’t apply to ExplorerGutPlus, but does apply to the other options in the first uBiome link above. This isn’t a regular genealogical DNA test like many of the others listed in this post. It checks between 1 and 5 sites for bacterial DNA (mouth, skin, nose, genital, gut). I have taken this test in the past when it was on sale as I was curious as to what it would show. Interestingly, some insurance companies will pay some of the cost. Click on this link: https://ubiome.com/clinical/smartgut/ and see if your insurance company will cover it. The Smart Gut kit is only one of the sites (gut, specifically, a stool sample). The beta ended so they are no longer writing off what’s not covered by insurance (ended mid-August 2018), but you can still check and see how much it would cost based on what your insurance covers. Shame they haven’t figured out a way to get insurance companies to cover the other four sites yet. I have done the Smart Gut kit a number of times over the last 3 years.

WeGene – https://www.wegene.com/en/ free upload if you tested with 23andMe (including v5 chip) or AncestryDNA; regular price if you need to order a kit from WeGene (it’s a Chinese company and you would need to figure out the exchange rate if you buy a kit from them). For now, they don’t accept FTDNA, etc. It includes basic to intermediate haplogroup(s) – mtDNA and Y-DNA (males only). Have WeGene in the Sale and non-Sale sections since you can order a kit for them at regular price if you don’t use AncestryDNA or 23andMe free upload option. Not available on Amazon. It’s also in the Sales Section since you can upload raw data from 23andMe (including v5 chip) and AncestryDNA free. Exchange rate was around $60 – 70 when I checked at different times.
YSEQ.net – https://www.yseq.net/ regular prices as YSEQ rarely does sales although they occasionally will do a sale. Will continue checking in case they do a sale for DNA Day. Prices range, depending on if you want an individual Y-DNA SNP or various STR ranges, mtDNA (several options) to a 15x read, 30xread, or 50xread full DNA test. 15x read: $740; 30x read: (+ $600 above 15x read price) ; 50x read: (+$1,430 above 15x read price) ; Other Extras (price is in addition to whatever read you order) add $90 if you want USB drive sent to you (otherwise, you can download your results through a link for no additional cost); Sanger extra Y-DNA results (up to 10 Y-DNA SNPs): $100; you receive 4 cheek swabs and you need to use all four and mail them back to YSEQ. Individual SNPs tend to run $18. YSEQ also offers Y-STR testing, mtDNA, and Haplogroup panels. It’s a good alternative to FTDNA in some ways, but doesn’t offer matching. It is a great way to cheaply verify Y-DNA comparisons between males who should share Y-DNA.
