Shark Theft – Weirdness Wednesdays January 23, 2019

The latest and most likely one of the weirdest things that I have found to this point, and worthy of being a Weirdness Wednesday candidate. It’s an old story from mid-2018, but it was the weirdest thing I found as I was searching WordPress using “weird” as a search term.

Thank you to The Totebag for posting about this weird news: Weird News: Shark theft — The Totebag. The post was originally published in December 2018 and reports on a story from July 2018. One of the funnier comments I have seen in a while is The Totebag:

Felony. Imagine the conversations in jail… “I’m in for stealing a shark.”

The following links are found on the blog linked above: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/thieves-snatch-shark-san-antonio-aquarium-wheel-it-out-baby-n895956 and https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/suspected-shark-thief-san-antonio-aquarium-heist-charged-felony-robbery-n896221.

I found a few other mentions: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/31/us/stolen-shark-aquarium-san-antonio.html, https://www.livescience.com/63220-shark-stolen-in-baby-carriage.htmlhttps://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-ab&q=shark+theft+baby+stroller (Google Search using Shark, Theft, Baby Stroller for search terms). Several YouTube videos using the same search terms as I used for Google Search: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shark+theft+baby+stroller.

As much as I want to think this is the weirdest thing out there, I would hazard a guess this is pretty tame compared to some of what others have seen or blogged about.

I didn’t read why they stole the shark because I can’t think of a good reason to steal a shark.
