Today Visiting a Cemetery Mausoleum – May 31, 2021

Today I am visiting a cemetery mausoleum. It’s only open a couple of times a year – Christmas Day and Memorial Day week-end. It’s located in Highland Cemeteryhttps://billiongraves.com/cemetery/Highland-Cemetery/37991 (BillionGraves) and https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/92689/highland-cemetery (Find-A-Grave). Here’s the City of Wichita link for the cemetery – https://www.wichita.gov/ParkandRec/CityParks/Pages/Cemeteries.aspx. I have only been in the mausoleum one time. As most of the headstones are behind locked gates, I will focus on the handful that are outside the locked gates and are visible to me with my cataract issue.

Technically, a friend will be with me and will get the ones that I can’t get. In the past, I found that using the BillionGraves app works best inside buildings if you take a photo outside the building and switch on the Inside building portion of the app. Seen the same thing with other apps that are cemetery related.

The mausoleum is in the southeast section of the cemeteryhttp://ksgenweb.org/sedgwick/cems/highcem.html. If you click on each letter, and type in Mau, you will see there are less than 400 people entombed in the mausoleum. The next time it will open will be Christmas Day; it will probably open the day before and close the Monday after as it falls on Saturday this year. Not sure how fast we will get the headstones photographed. Normally it would take less than an hour between the two of us.
