FamilySearch has been scanning books for over 14 years making digital copies of family histories, local histories, school yearbooks, and other genealogical types of books. The team at FamilySearch that leads this effort has made some great improvements to deliver this rich content to researchers around the world.

The most exciting part of the book-scanning project is that it recently passed the half million mark. Over 500,000 books have been digitized and processed using OCR (optical character recognition) software to make these books full-text searchable. These books are from collections in FamilySearch book scanning libraries worldwide such as the Family History Library, the Allen County (Indiana) Public Library, and the Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research in Houston. Some books in the digital library have been donated by community patrons.

You can search the digital library by going to FamilySearch.org, clicking Search in the top menu, and selecting Books from the drop-down menu. Or you can get there directly by going to FamilySearch.org/library/books. Digitized books are also linked in the FamilySearch catalog.
