Current 2021 DNA Companies August 1, 2021

Over 3,500 words. I removed companies no longer offering DNA kits or stores that no longer carry genealogical DNA kits.

Skip down to the different DNA companies or tools if you don’t want to read the whole post. Going to use the standard prices for the various tests below. For sale prices, I will Sticky a post with current sale prices and link to it – and modify it or create a new post as necessary –  adding new link to the  DNA Sales post when it goes live.

This is a different post from the Sticky posts as this covers a lot more DNA testing companies and tools than the Sticky posts as those tend to include the major DNA testing companies and many DNA companies having sales.

As always, check prices before you order! You can also check EBay and Amazon in case you find a lower price there, but make sure it’s for the same company and test. Some of the companies show an end date for their sale prices, but many don’t. Amazon loves to raise and lower prices on DNA tests on a somewhat regular basis, usually every few days for some of the major companies, bit less often for other companies.

As of August 1, 2021, the following companies are offering DNA tests. I will link to this post as new sales are added or current sales end.

Tests on Sale: See the Sticky thread for what companies are offering sales.

23andMe Regular price (keeping it up since Amazon loves to change the price on their 23andMe kits on a somewhat regular basis https://www.23andme.com/ Ancestry (ethnicity) only kit regular price $99**  https://www.amazon.com/23andMe-Ancestry-Personal-Genetic-Service/dp/B01LZ5K87Z/ regular price $99.00; Ancestry + Health  regular price $199.00**. Amazon has Ancestry + Health – https://www.amazon.com, but can vary every couple of days so check Amazon). VIP Health + Ancestry $499.00 (2 kits included).

AncestryDNA: https://www.ancestry.com/dna/ –  regular price $99.00 – been seeing $89 and $79 sale prices when I check on some days, but those usually only last one (1) day; Amazon https://www.amazon.com/s?field-keywords=ancestry+dna (regular price $99.00*); if you want AncestryDNA + Traits, https://www.amazon.com/AncestryDNA-Genetic-Testing-Ethnicity-Traits/dp/B07J1FZQBC regular price $119.00. Check other vendors on Amazon as sometimes they are cheaper than the listed Amazon price in the link. If you order two (2) or more kits in one order from Ancestry, additional kits may be $89, first kit is regular price of $99.

Don’t know if this is a targeted sale on the AncestryDNA site or available to everyone, but seeing on their website if I go to add a DNA test; I also see it if I am not logged into my account

SAVE NOW. Add more kits to your order for only $89/ea

Also, check EBay as you can often find AncestryDNA kits cheaper on it. In general, you can usually find Buy It Now AncestryDNA kits around $45 – 55 on EBay (make sure it’s an AncestryDNA kit as EBay searches often pull up other companies’ kits when using Ancestry DNA as your search parameter); for the auctions, it can vary widely depending on how an auction goes.

Dante Labshttps://us.dantelabs.com/products/whole-genome-sequencing sale price varies), regular price $899.00.  On Amazon, there are several listings: 1) Dante Labs Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) for Healthcare Professionals, Sequence 20000 Genes, with Personalized Report, with Saliva Collection Kithttps://www.amazon.com/Dante-Labs-Sequencing-Professionals-Personalized/dp/B07DNJ7QWQ, sale price $499.00. check Amazon as they sometimes temporarily offer great deals on some Dante Labs kits – see Dante Labs Amazon Sale Prices (updated September 4th with additional clarification from Dante Labs) for more details.  Whole GenomeZ – Whole Genome Sequencing for Advanced Diagnostics (130X + 30X)) – https://us.dantelabs.com/collections/our-tests/products/whole-genomez sale price $899.00, regular price $1,499.00. https://us.dantelabs.com/collections/our-tests/products/long-reads-whole-genome-sequencing $899 price.

DNAFit https://www.dnafit.com/us/store/ ** (the sales tend to run for a few days at a time and restart on a somewhat regular basis) – some of the prices may be significantly lower than what’s listed below as DNAFit starts and stops sales without warning.

FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA)  – https://www.familytreedna.com/. Regular price $79: https://www.amazon.com/Family-Tree-DNA-Genetic-Ancestry/dp/B01NAQ1UCW?th=1 (free shipping for Amazon even if you don’t have Amazon Prime; bit slower, but worth it if time isn’t an issue).

FindMyPastDNA (they use LivingDNA kits – see LivingDNA below):  regular price $99.00 https://www.findmypast.com/ancestry-dna-testing/; regular price of $99 on LivingDNALivingDNA kits on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/3-Living-DNA-Ancestry-Test/dp/B07HWVRPNZ/ – on Amazon, currently unavailable regular price ? + $4.99 shipping. Added it to Sales Section because they accept free limited transfers from other DNA testing companies.

Full Genomes Corporation: https://www.fullgenomes.com/ $15 Individual SNPs. Other tests available, including Y-DNA and full DNA testing – see below for more information.

Helix –  https://www.helix.com/collections/all/ some tests on sale and not all on listed in the link below, but many aren’t (direct link to Helix list of DNA tests offered); Amazon list of Helix tests doesn’t include all Helix items listed on the Helix site so you may need to search for specific tests or items if you are checking Amazon for something not in the above Amazon link. Rest of Helix DNA tests are regular price and Helix kits are regular price of $80.00 if you need a Helix DNA kit for an individual. However, Helix sometimes does limited sales so check any test you are considering to see if it’s on sale.

HomeDNA / GPS Origins Ancestry Testhttps://homedna.com/product/gps-origins regular price $199.95 (looks at over 80,000 autosomal DNA markers). Sometimes available on GroupOn. They may offer a 10% discount if you put it in your shopping  cart and try to leave before completing the order. It semi-regularly goes on sale for much cheaper.

LivingDNA https://www.livingdna.com/ regular price $99.00; on FindMyPastDNA regular price $99.00. LivingDNA or FindMyPastDNA on Amazon – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z6277D5/ currently unavailable; (check prices as Amazon may have a lower price). LivingDNA offers free limited transfers, but you won’t get a few benefits if you go this route that you would get if you order the test directly from LivingDNA; they have indicated they will offer discounted upgrades for those who transfer and want the extra benefits, but no word on when or how much it will cost). For example, you won’t get haplogroups (mtDNA, Y-DNA – if male) and originally you wouldn’t get ethnicity results when I did a free transfer back in December 2017, but looks like they may be offering ethnicity results for the free transfers during the beta test (it’s not clear if you get to keep the ethnicity results after the beta test ends and it doesn’t appear those who upload after the beta test will get them without paying some kind of upgrade fee) after your transfer processes. You would have to order a kit from LivingDNA to get those benefits. They are partnering with FindMyPast and FindMyPast will be offering LivingDNA kits packaged with FindMyPastDNA (or some similar language) at some point, similar to how MyHeritageDNA uses FTDNA kits with MyHeritage logo on the package. One transferred result is showing a single match. Two of the transfers have zero (0) matches!

MyHeritageDNA https://www.myheritage.com/dnaregular price $79.00; Health regular price $199.00; Amazon for $79.00* with free shipping and FTDNA‘s Amazon (see above) price may be cheaper so check both places. GroupOn: https://www.groupon.com/deals/myheritage-11-26 sale price $65.00. MyHeritageDNA accepts free limited transfers from FTDNA as well as from AncestryDNA, LivingDNA, and 23andMe (including v5 chip now). They made some major changes to those who upload raw data transfers after November 30, 2018); it won’t affect you if you uploaded your raw data before December 16, 2018 as they are grandfathering in people who upload raw data before December 16, 2018 and they will retain full access. Free limited transfer of raw data from many other DNA companies although if you have a paid MyHeritage subscription, the full upgrade is supposed to be free.

Sequencing: https://sequencing.com/apps/app-market. Offers various apps, ranging from $4.99 to $189 or higher.

Silverberry Genomix: https://silverberrygenomix.com/  They sometimes send an e-mail with discount, but not sure if it’s available for those who didn’t receive the e-mail. Some kits on sale, check Amazon link for all Silverberry Genomix products available, usually with free shipping – check to see if any kits are on sale on Amazon. If you upload your 23andMe, AncestryDNA, or FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA) raw data, you can get a Basic Wellness Report that includes 10 free reports and is available without a discount code. You can also get the Basic Wellness Report (BWR) if you order a kit from Silverberry Genomix. Keeping in the Sale Section because you can get a limited BWR free.

Target: – no longer available

TeloYears https://www.teloyears.com/home/ regular prices for some things, but a limited time sale price for other things https://www.teloyears.com/home/products.html?uid=09290167Ecrf491i9. TeloYears Health regular price $99; TeloYears Health + Ancestry $169 (regular price $199, but seems to be a standard discount as opposed to a sale price). They also do the TribeCode (see below) tests. Not available on Amazon.

Veritas Genetics: https://www.veritasgenetics.com/ They occasionally run sales. They were temporarily not doing U. S. kits, but started back doing them January 2020. They offer two COVID-19 test options – $99.00 each – one to determine if you have COVID-19; the other to see if you had COVID-19 or have COVID-19 antibodies.

Vitagene: https://vitagene.com Have semi-regular sales.

Believe this is the same report available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Vitagene-DNA-Test-Kit-Ancestry/dp/B01NCISWQT (sale price on Amazon is $89.00* – check for coupon as they sometimes have $10.00 off coupon deal on Amazon)- price may or may not be cheaper on Amazon as they love to raise and lower the prices on a regular basis.

End of Vitagene Tests

WeGene https://www.wegene.com/en/ – often have to reload the page one or more times to get it to load – free upload if you tested with 23andMe (including v5 chip) or AncestryDNA; regular price if you need to order a kit from WeGene (it’s a Chinese company and you would need to figure out the exchange rate if you buy a kit from them and also probably need a way to read Chinese since the main WeGene site is in Chinese). For now, they don’t accept FTDNAMyHeritageLivingDNA, etc. It includes basic to intermediate haplogroup(s) – mtDNA and Y-DNA (males only). At some point, they are going to offer a $99 DNA test.

DNA companies not offering sales at this time (note – some are included above as they may have temporary sales going on):

23andMe (see Sale Section above) https://www.23andme.com/ Ancestry (ethnicity) only kit regular price $99Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/23andMe-Ancestry-Personal-Genetic-Service/dp/B01LZ5K87Z/ – regular price $99.00; Amazon has Ancestry + Health – https://www.amazon.com/23andMe-DNA-Test-Ancestry-collection/dp/B01G7PYQTM/  regular price $199.00.

AncestryDNA (see Sale Section above)https://www.ancestry.com/dna/ – as noted in the Test on Sale section above, I don’t know if the price showing on my Ancestry account is one available to everybody or only sent to a group of members. $99 – regular price if you only order 1 test; as of  the date of this blog post, it’s not on sale on Amazon (price can vary almost daily, click on the link or see the Sale Section above). Worth noting sometimes Ancestry sends individual e-mails to small groups of its users that includes DNA sale prices, but those tend to be limited to the people who received the e-mails. Also, check EBay as you can often find AncestryDNA kits cheaper on it, usually in the $45 – 55 range and shipping may or may not be free. ALWAYS register kits from EBay and Amazon as soon as you get them in case there are issues with the kit. Same goes for any DNA kit purchased from EBay or Amazon!

GenePlaza https://www.geneplaza.com/ – no sale – they offer two choices – purchase a kit (regular price $145, but sometimes on sale for $85 (update September, 2018; to order a test, they refer you to GenCove, but the link to GenCove tells you they no longer sell the test) ; they were offering $6 credit (may no longer apply as of early September 2018) that applies to many, but not all, apps offered by GenePlaza) from them or free upload if you tested with most major DNA companies (23andMe, AncestryDNA, and GenCove – check with GenePlaza if you tested elsewhere) with small bonus (NOTE: credit may no longer be available: $3 credit if you do the free upload; $6 credit if you order a kit from them; (NOTE: credit may not apply to all apps offered) to spend on different apps they offer. Don’t see a price for how much the kit would cost if you needed to order one. App prices range from $1.49 to $5.49. Some of the individual tests are interesting enough to check out. Not available on Amazon.

Helix https://www.helix.com/ – Amazon link: Amazon list of Helix tests some of the individual tests are on sale (check above for the handful on sale, but you would need to check each one as the sales come and go on a regular basis.  For whatever reason, Helix doesn’t make it easy to view pricing for each test without opening each test individually which is a pain in the neck. This link, https://www.helix.com/store/all, gives you each test available, but you would need to check each test for current pricing. This link on my blog gives the Helix tests currently available on Helix: List of DNA Tests Offered Through Helix. They can adding and removing tests on a somewhat regular basis. Some of the third party options are no longer available and new ones have been added.

HomeDNA https://homedna.com/ Many of the below test kits may be available at CVS Pharmacy, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart which would save you any applicable shipping costs, but would be subject to local sales tax. Also, the kits available locally usually are only for the testing kit and you would need to pay additional lab processing fees to HomeDNA when you send in the kit. (Note: if you order a kit directly from HomeDNA, as opposed to doing a raw data upload from another company, it will be a cheek swab); some of the tests may be available on Amazon and on GroupOn.

The tests currently offered directly on HomeDNA are as follows with regular prices listed below:

Ancestry:
GPS Origins Ancestry Test $199.95 (looks at over 80,000 autosomal markers); also available on Amazon and Amazon price may be much cheaper. Sometimes available on GroupOn.
GPS Origins Ancestry Test – Upload Your Raw Data (can upload from most of the major DNA testing companies – AncestryDNA, 23andMe, FamilyTree DNA, Geno 2.0 but not 2.0 Next unless it was done by FamilyTree) $39.00 (number of markers depends on which company you transfer results from)

GPS Origins Ancestry Test – Asian Edition $199.00
HomeDNA Starter Ancestry Test $69.00 (13 CODIS markers)

Pets:
Mixed-Breed Dog Identification DNA Test and Life Plan $125.00 (learn about your mixed-breed dog’s lineage)
Cat DNA Health Screen and Life Plan $125.00 (screen your cat for over 40 genetic diseases and traits)
Dog DNA Health Screen and Life Plan $125.00 (screen your dog for over 100 genetic diseases and traits)

End of HomeDNA list

Promethease https://www.promethease.com/ Regular price uploads start at $12 with some uploads running more if the raw data file size is larger than average (DNA.Land,Genes for Good, for example). They have offered free uploads several times in the past and will probably do it again in the near future. Note: this isn’t a DNA test, but uses your raw data from other companies (23andMe, Ancestry, FTDNA, etc.) to generate reports.

TeloYears https://www.teloyears.com/home/ prices: TeloYears Health $99 TeloYears Health + Ancestry $169 (regular price $199, but seems to be a standard discount as opposed to a sale price). They also do the TribeCode (see below) tests. Not available on Amazon. Temporarily in the Sales Section since it is offering a limited time sale right now. Sale prices vary on a regular basis.

TribeCode Tribecode$99 regular price for Advanced Ancestry; kit is ordered through TeloYears (see above) and appears to be the Ancestry/ethnicity portion only. Not available on Amazon. Once you order the kit from TeloYears and register it, you qualify to earn TribeCoins which can be used for a variety of purposes. You can also earn TribeCoins, by logging into TribeCode and going to the Community section. Logging in daily to TribeCode sometimes generates 1 TribeCoin/day.

Veritas Genetics https://www.veritasgenetics.com/ See Sale Section above.  Here’s a link to their 30x read DNA kit: https://www.veritasgenetics.com/mygenome. Regular price $999 for their 30x read. For additional information, here’s a link to the company’s PDF: https://www.veritasgenetics.com/sites/default/files/media/documents/VG_ProductOnePager_myGenome_email.pdf – Not available on Amazon.

WeGene https://www.wegene.com/en/ – may have to reload the page one or more times; free upload if you tested with 23andMe (including v5 chip) or AncestryDNA; regular price if you need to order a kit from WeGene (it’s a Chinese company and you would need to figure out the exchange rate if you buy a kit from them). For now, they don’t accept FTDNA, etc. It includes basic to intermediate haplogroup(s) – mtDNA and Y-DNA (males only). Have WeGene in the Sale and non-Sale sections since you can order a kit for them at regular price if you don’t use AncestryDNA or 23andMe free upload option. Not available on Amazon. It’s also in the Sales Section since you can upload raw data from 23andMe (including v5 chip) and AncestryDNA free. Exchange rate was around $60 – 70 when I checked at different times. Update December 1, 2019 – looks like they will be offering a $99 test at some point in the near future. As of this post, $99 kit not available for purchase

YSEQ.net – https://www.yseq.net/ regular prices as YSEQ rarely does sales although they occasionally make exceptions. Prices range, depending on if you want an individual Y-DNA SNP or various STR ranges, mtDNA (several options) to a 15x read, 30xread, or 50xread full DNA test. 15x read: $599.00; 30x read: $949.00; 50x read: $1,599.00; Other Extras (price is in addition to whatever read you order) add $60 if you want USB drive sent to you (otherwise, you can download your results through a link for no additional cost); Sanger extra Y-DNA results (up to 10 Y-DNA SNPs): $100; you receive 4 cheek swabs and you need to use all four and mail them back to YSEQ. Individual SNPs tend to run $18. YSEQ also offers Y-STR testing, mtDNA, and Haplogroup panels. It’s a good alternative to FTDNA in some ways, but doesn’t offer matching. It is a great way to cheaply verify Y-DNA comparisons between males who should share Y-DNA. For the full DNA test, they’re offering a 23andMe type autosomal raw data option that may be usable on sites that accept 23andMe transfers. Located in Germany. Cheek swab.
