I saw this recently on BBC News – China elephants: Wandering herd take well deserved rest: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-57398272. Slightly longer article.
June 8, 2021
The herd was seen resting near a village in Xiyang township after heavy rain slowed down its travels.
The animals have been trekking the country for about 15 months in an extraordinary 500km (300-mile) trip away from their natural habitat.

Didn’t even know China had elephants!

I think they are Asian elephants and not African elephants. Something about the size of the ears determines which is which.

I should check to see if they made it back as it sounds like they did a road trip with the goal of heading back to where they came from.
