I saw this go viral on several websites: https://nypost.com/2021/04/01/abandoned-1-6-billion-missouri-resort-community-goes-viral/ and https://www.foxnews.com/real-estate/missouri-abandoned-ghost-town-resort-tiktok. There is one video in the New York Post link.
Seems some people went to jail for different charges. The houses stood vacant for 13 years. From the video, and other comments, it’s a place I would avoid. Not sure who owns the property. My guess is the state owns the property now as I doubt anyone paid the large amount of property taxes that would cover 13 years of back taxes. I can’t imagine it would be cheap to bulldoze the mansions. Most likely a huge money pit if someone only purchased one of the mansions. There are several YouTube videos online if you want to view what it looks like now. Some were posted today or in the last few days. Other videos date back to 2017.
