News Corp to purchase ‘Lord of the Rings’ titles | TheHill – The Hill March 29, 2021 – Weirdness Wednesdays March 31, 2021

I saw this recently on News Corp to purchase ‘Lord of the Rings’ titles | TheHill – The Hill https://newsfeeds.media/news-corp-to-purchase-lord-of-the-rings-titles-thehill-the-hill/. Decided it was an interesting addition to this week’s Weirdness Wednesday post. Slightly longer article, but here’s a brief synopsis. When I saw the price, I thought this was an early April Fool joke. Turns out they are buying the current publisher or part of the current publisher. Appears to be the consumer publishing arm of the publisher. They will get about 7,000 titles in the purchase. That’s from different authors.

News Corp will pay $349 million to buy the publisher of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and other J.R.R. Tolkien books.

The purchase means that the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books and Media segment of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will be a part of News Corp, the company announced Monday.
