See some people aren’t listening to the power company about reducing energy usage. Then, they lose power for hours or days. It’s smart to listen to the power company when they tell you to reduce power usage if you don’t want to risk losing power for more than 30 minutes. I know some areas in Wichita and other places have gone to roaming blackouts to reduce the risk of having longer power outages. If that’s not bad enough, some places have put in place boil water before using it. Works great if you have power. If you don’t, better hope you have a fireplace or alternative non power option to heat the water. I don’t drink the water in my house as it frequently has a smell to it. I usually get bottled water as a back-up or drink water at other places.
I noticed the local natural gas company as well as other gas companies warning about reducing natural gas usage when possible. Again, please pay attention to this kind of warning.
I checked on my place yesterday. Noticed a note from my landlord. He took care of the frozen water pipe situation and has heaters in the basement to keep them from freezing again. Today is the first day where the highs are in the 20s F. Most likely going to go home tonight. It’s warm enough as my landlord set the furnace to 75 F and advised me to keep it in the 70 – 75 F range for a bit. Double checked the water was running again and it was.
Looks like my neighbor lost water on Friday, but didn’t call until Monday. I noticed the City Water Department would help with unfreezing water pipes if it met where their responsibility includes. However, they won’t unfreeze water pipes inside or underneath the house, apartment, mobile home, etc.
