Airman Benjamin Nevoraski’s story is like that of lots of people who join the armed services: He had the feeling that life wasn’t going the way he wanted it to go, so he shook things up.
On Thursday, he and six other recruits became the first enlistees assigned to the nation’s newest service branch: the U.S. Space Force.
Graduating alongside 407 basic Air Force trainees at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, they found themselves in a spotlight, trotted before news media and saluted by Pentagon brass — and, for good measure, a couple of F-16s that roared overhead.
