23andMe Test Update – November 4, 2020

I received an e-mail from 23andMe a couple of hours ago and they are now extracting my DNA. It went from being in the queue to where 23andMe said it is now being extracted to being extracted. Estimated time to extract is 1 – 2 weeks. Expected results date November 19th, but with a note it could be December 3rd before I get results. I was happy they e-mailed me as 23andMe can be hit or miss on e-mailing where your sample is in the process. As they don’t have a separate category between In queue for DNA extraction and DNA Extraction started, it was good to see they e-mailed me.

I hadn’t planned on doing several DNA posts today, but I wasn’t expecting MyHeritageDNA to announce a sale today or an update from 23andMe. I saw the MyHeritageDNA sale on their blog as I check several genealogy and DNA companies’ blogs on a daily basis. I expect the DNA sales will taper off for a bit until the first one ends. I believe the DNA sales will start back up once Black Friday and Cyber Monday start as many DNA sales end before Black Friday.

I don’t check 23andMe for where my sample is in the process. I check 23andMe to see how the sales are going. As they have an end date, I do more watching of how the prices on Amazon as the various DNA companies can see wide price differences on Amazon. The prices may be set by Amazon or by the different DNA companies. Also, if you see any company is offering a sale, you can alert Amazon there is a sale going on. Amazon will often price match to a certain extent. Sometimes they won’t, or they will take the shipping cost into account and offer a slightly lower discount.
