The Stoning of Stephen – Forgiveness Sundays October 18, 2020

In looking at today’s topic for Forgiveness Sunday, I decided to look at some examples from the Bible. While Stephen was being stoned to death, he made the following statement (Acts 7:59-60 King James Version):

59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

I would hope in that situation that I would make the same type of statement. Until we are in a particular situation, we don’t know how we will react. We may think in a given situation, we will react by doing X or Y, but until we are in it, we don’t know how we will react. I think it speaks highly of Stephen that while being stoned to death, he prayed for those stoning him.
