Florida Mall Puts Masked Mannequins on Non-Working Escalators – Weirdness Wednesdays September 9, 2020

I saw this on another blog, but some of the stuff on that blog was too far out there for me to link to it. I figure any mall doing this – Florida Mall Puts Masked Mannequins on Non-Working Escalators deserves to be made this week’s Weirdness Wednesdays choice. Here’s a link to the Tweet – https://twitter.com/deapoirierbooks/status/1295083769947475968. I  did not find more information on the story, but the Tweet was posted last month.

I am sure there’s more to the story as to why a mall would do this, but I was surprised not to find out more information. The mall appears to be largely abandoned. My suggestion would be for the mall to do what several malls have done around here. Two of the local malls have decided that renting out space to government agencies, colleges, libraries, and other non-retail is the way to go. It may not generate as much income as retail locations, but it keeps the malls full and help pays the mortgages and upkeep of the malls.

Several larger malls have opted to not follow suit and are mostly empty. This was true before the pandemic hit although the pandemic has made it worse.
