I gave up cable back December 2014. My treatment by the local cable company left a bad taste in my mouth after something that they assured me wouldn’t happen. When five employees on five different occasions all assure me something wouldn’t happen, I get a bit miffed. I unplugged my TV the day I cut cable and haven’t plugged it back to this day. There are plenty of non-cable options out there that are better in my opinion. There are a ton of local channels available that are better than cable. Some of them aren’t available on cable.
With all the repetition on cable these days, I find I miss it less every day. I don’t use any other paid options – Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, CBS Access, YouTube, I find plenty on YouTube without going the pay route.
This may sound surprising if you knew my love of TV. We didn’t have cable growing up and as the youngest in a household of six, I rarely got control of the TV except when I was home alone. From stories, I used to run into the TV room to watch the commercials and leave when they went off. The commercials were a lot better back then.
