I won’t mention the name of the satire website, but if you are familiar with U. K. satire news outlets, it should be obvious which one did it. I check the IRS Coronavirus website – https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center several times a day, including a few minutes ago. Nowhere has the IRS indicated it has switched to only sending out EIP Debit card payments. Yet, I see people citing the above satire site or other sites relying on the satire site as proof the IRS has indeed switched to only doing EIP Debit cards. The IRS did send out 4 million EIP Debit cards through two service centers – Austin and Andover, but they have a number of other service centers and those service centers haven’t followed suit for EIP Debit cards yet.
People rely too much on satire sites, often not realizing the sites are satire sites. A great example is The Onion, a well-known satire site although many people don’t realize that’s what it is known for.
I always encourage people to go to the source. In this case, the IRS is the only source I trust about things stimulus package related. If you look at the IRS Coronavirus link above, it makes no mention they have switched to only sending out payments using the EIP Debit cards. If your country is doing something similar, I would check with whatever government website is making the payments instead of relying on news outlets or YouTubers who are doing 1 or more videos a day about what’s happening with the current or next stimulus package.
As Congress is in recess and will be for a bit, there’s no need for anyone to be doing daily or multiple daily updates on these issues. I won’t be doing much on the next stimulus package until such time as a bill passes both Houses of Congress. It’s apparent there will be a next stimulus package, but the details are still being worked out and it’s too early to tell how it will turn out.
