My brother-in-law was stationed in the U. K. for several years in the Air Force. When my sister came back, she had an English accent that transitioned to a Southern accent over time. For a while, it was a combined English/Southern accent that was something you don’t hear that often.

It was. They were there during the Princess Diana wedding. He wasn’t high enough to get inside, but my sister was on one of the streets. He was stationed northwest (?) of London about 70 miles at some radar station as he was in EW.
