My Favorite Internet Cafe Is Open for Dine-in – May 4, 2020

Apparently, my spies at my favorite Internet cafe location fell down on the job as one of them was supposed to call me when the dine-in option became available. A friend called me expecting to see me there as he noticed it was now dine-in. It has a few tables and I have to reserve my favorite spot ahead of time although I often get there early enough to be one of the first customers. It’s still closing early. They have designated some booths as off limits and removed most of the tables to create social distancing buffers. Glad to see old friends as I have only seen one employee a while back as they special delivered a sandwich to my place.

This means I can hopefully get back to doing several of my theme posts the way I was doing them earlier before the shelter in place started.

In case, it’s not obvious, I consider the staff at this location to be family, including the manager and her boss. I see them more often than I do my blood family.

I am writing this post and the last two posts from the cafe. Going to be weird being back here on a regular basis. It’s like coming home after a prolonged absence. It was two weeks shy of two months since I was last here. I probably won’t be as much as I was in the past as I help a friend and I will still help my friend, at least until the shelter in place is in effect. I may still help my friend if they need it after shelter in place ends.

I know it may be a while before shelter in places lifts fully. I don’t plan on doing much to reduce my personal restrictions that I implemented after my cafe stopped allowing dine-in.

It is nice to be able to use my laptop again as I am restricted to my phones are my main source at home and I only get to my friends’ house a couple of times a week where I can use my laptop.

    • It’s doing well. They have to close early yesterday due to a water issue. But they encourage social distancing and wearing masks. The employees wear masks. They will serve people who aren’t masked, but they have one of those plexiglass barriers at the register. Most people order online or use debit/credit cards to pay as a shortage of coin change due to the pandemic.

      • The city and county are taking steps to address the substantial increase in cases as both governments made some unwise decisions a while back.

Wow same here in California; lots of thing back to before because of the increase

      • The problem was the County ignored the County Health Officer on how to move to the next stage and basically the County Commissioners voted to open everything up and not enforce social distancing. The City did something similar and we saw a spike in numbers at both levels. Wichita is the largest city by population in Kansas. Sedgwick County was the highest population county for years, but the Kansas City metro county took the lead a while back. Locally, the officials assumed people would use common sense. Why is beyond me as it was obvious most people I saw were not using common sense.

My zip code has spiked, but I rarely interact with people in the neighborhood other than to say hello as I am riding past them. Most of the customers at my nearby convenience store are people from out of the area. I wear a mask in there because the store aisles are nowhere big enough for social distancing.
