Note: FamilyTree DNA Day Sale ends April 26, 2020.
Taking advantage of part of my stimulus rebate and the DNA Day Sale at FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA) – https://www.familytreedna.com/, I decided to order the Big Y-500 to Big Y-700 upgrade since it was on sale.
Not on sale were the Warrior Gene or Factoid Combination tests, but I ordered them as well. Going to interesting to see how they compare to similar tests from another company.
I don’t expect results soon as I was late in the sale to ordering the tests. They have some of my DNA left over from earlier testing, but I expect not enough remains to complete all three tests.
Big Y-700 testing will probably take the longest and will likely take the most DNA. I will be pleasantly surprised if I don’t get cheek swabs sent to me by FTDNA before the tests are completed. If you haven’t DNA tested before each time they run DNA, a portion is used up. Some specific types of tests use up more DNA than other tests. That’s not counting if they have to rerun a test or if your test gets pulled for a random quality control check. Many people don’t realize this and think the same DNA sample can be used repeatedly.
I wil update once I have date estimates for the tests. Those have to be taken with a grain of salt as the results may finish sooner, or more likely, take longer. I expect it may take possibly two months for the Big Y-700 results to come in.
