U. S. Oil Prices Went Negative Yesterday April 21, 2020

When I saw this on Facebook this morning, it was by a friend who regularly jokes around. I didn’t pay it any mind until others who aren’t jokesters made similar comments. It doesn’t mean they are going to pay you to fill up.

Here’s a BBC article –  https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/business-52350082

The drop in demand due to shelter in place is seeing less gas being sold. The recent decision by OPEC to cut production by 10% won’t make a dent until the shelter in place ends in enough places that a lot more people are driving again.

If enough people are still not driving by mid-May, we could see it happen again. I plan on staying on shelter in place a bit longer even if the governor or County Commissioners lift it sooner. I saw one governor allow massage parlors, barber shops, and other places to re-open as long as they practice social distancing. Kind of impossible for any of those businesses to maintain 6 feet away while performing their jobs. Wearing masks is not a guarantee you won’t get infected or infect others.

Experts aren’t sure if a second wave will happen. Some say yes and other experts say no. I am for waiting to see before rushing out on the theory a second wave won’t happen.
