Per my earlier post Stimulus Rebate Update – April 12, 2020, the latest updates include many should receive direct deposit tomorrow or within a couple of days. Next, the direct deposit app should be up tomorrow for those who didn’t have direct deposit set up. For paper checks, it may be early May to five months later before all of them are sent out.
Still many unanswered questions or conflicting responses from experts. For example, when will SSDI and SSI receive direct deposit if they don’t sign up for direct deposit and didn’t file?
Someone claimed SSA was not working with the IRS and gave a link to the SSA Corona virus page. I saw nothing there supporting the wild claim.
The IRS is still processing tax returns at the same time so don’t call them expecting a quick pick up, reports are 1+ hour wait times.
I would encourage going the direct deposit route unless you don’t want the money in a reasonable time frame.
Also, if you owe back child support, the stimulus rebate will be grabbed for that. Other cases like back taxes, student loans, etc. won’t affect getting the rebate;however it will affect your regular tax refund. No word if a second rebate will be coming.
