TribeCode DNA – DNA Saturdays March 14, 2020

TribeCode had a great start when it first came on the DNA scene. I chose it as this week’s DNA Saturdays post. However, the great start fizzled very early. From my post on Alphabetical List of DNA Testing Companies:

Centrillion Biosciences (aka TribeCode) – http://www.centrilliontech.com/
http://www.tribecode.com/ working now; $99 for kit and it was a Spit kit when it was available for TribeCode, but TeloYears uses one drop of blood – kit includes a lancet to collect the blood – price is $99 for Ancestry/ethnicity and offers several other tests; many people confused DNATribes and TribeCode for being the same company when they are two different companies. Blood sample.

TribeCode See Centrillion Biosciences above – https://www.tribecode.com/ – looks like adding the www made the difference; now it’s $99 for the test and has a link to https://www.teloyears.com/home/ when you click on order on the TribeCode page. Don’t know how much it changed since they are now using TeloYears to process the kits.

I get an certificate error when I try to access the TribeCode site, but I accept the error and it loads fine. I signed for a free account on TribeCode years ago. It gives me generic random results for Y-DNA, mtDNA, and ethnicity. If I order a test, I would get specific results for me.

Here’s a review from 2015 by Blaine Bettinger, the Genetic Genealogist: A Review of TribeCode by Centrillion Biosciences: https://thegeneticgenealogist.com/2015/08/01/a-review-of-tribecode-by-centrillion-biosciences/This was done with the earlier test as the company now uses TeloYears kits which require a drop or two of blood. For TeloYears, go to https://www.teloyears.com/. Blaine’s post has a lot more information as he tested directly with TribeCode.

The TribeCode test looks at 12 million markers, but from what I have read, it’s not using the 30x read considered the minimum for good test results, especially if you are looking for medical information.
