Many bloggers already do one or more of these easy things, but many bloggers don’t.
- Make it easy to find past blog posts by adding an Archive to your blog. For example, my site, https://upsdownsfamilyhistory.wordpress.com/. uses a drop-down menu bar at the top right side: Past Blog Post Archive, just below the Search box. Other bloggers go with Archive links, usually at or near the bottom of their pages/posts – https://veritasdomain.wordpress.com. In this case, each month is a separate link, going back to September 2006 when the blog went live. If you go this route, best to put it near the bottom as it will get long if you blog at least once a month. Either of these options is fine. Choose the option you like better or the one that fits your blog theme.
- Add a Search box to your blog. You can do this by choosing a Theme that has the Search box as part of your blog’s Header, by adding a Search box widget, or coding it if you are comfortable using CSS or HTML.
- Link to your other social media accounts. You can do this by making a Page with links to your Social Media accounts, adding them as Widgets, or both.
I thought I had Search active on my blog until I went and looked. Turns out it was not active. I figured out how to add it and move it to the top of the right sidebar, above the Archive drop-down box. I know some WordPress Themes have Search in the Header location. There’s most likely a way to add it there, but I don’t know enough CSS, HTML, etc. to add it manually. I also made a few other changes while I was tinkering with other things. I moved some sidebar items higher on the list, removed a couple of pages I wasn’t using.
