What Influenced Traditional British Cooking?

Traditional English food has a rich history, with influences from around the world. Groups such as the Romans, Saxons, and Vikings colonized England at different times. Each added new tastes or skills to England’s culinary traditions.

Aside from these three main groups, England’s food has influences from around the world, thanks to trade. Foreign spices particularly have had a huge impact on English flavors and cuisines; widely used spices include ginger, cinnamon, pepper, and vanilla. England’s flavor profile as it is known today results from a world of resources.

  1. and Sausage Rolls. Also pickled onions. A must on a list.

    • I’ll take your word on it as you are from the U. K. If you have some good recipes for both, I would be interested in seeing them. I saw a lot of recipes for both items, but as I am not familiar with them, I wouldn’t know if it was a good, great, or bad recipe.

      • Sausage rolls are puff/flaky pastry, rolled into a long strip. Put sausage meat along the middle. Use beaten egg along edge. Pull edges together. Use a fork to seal. Cut approximately 2 – 2 1/2 inch rolls. Put vent holes in the top, and brush top with beaten egg. Put in oven at 400 until golden brown. From memory. Use any recipe for onions, as they are pickled, and not cooked.
