Happy Kansas Day – January 29, 2020

Happy Kansas Day 2020. It was on this date in 1861 Kansas became a state. It was first celebrated in 1877 as an unofficial holidey – http://www.holidayscalendar.com/event/kansas-day/. It is not a public holiday.

When I lived in Bird City during the anniversary of Kansas becoming a state, the men in town were expected to grow beards. That’s the first time I grew a beard. My beard didn’t turn out well since it was my first, but I wasn’t run out of town for not growing one. Not sure if they would have done it, but the town took certain traditions seriously.
