RootsWeb Mailing Lists to Be Discontinued March 2, 2020

I received this e-mail not quite an hour ago; administrators can save the e-mails in their list before March 2nd:

Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails.  Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb.
As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account.
Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community.
Sincerely,
The RootsWeb team
They encourage using Ancestry message boards. It sounds like the archived messages will be searchable.
Sadly, yet another feature of RootsWeb that is going away. It was bad enough they removed the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) that was free to use on RootsWeb a long time ago by moving it behind Ancestry‘s paywall. I lost track of how many other things they have removed. In some cases, the removal was due to a hiccup in the system. For example, many historical and genealogical societies use RootsWeb as their only online presence. Yet, many of them never did the follow-up to get their RootsWeb accounts back on.
