I recently mentioned Sequencing.com was having a $49 DNA sale – Genealogical DNA Testing Companies and Current DNA Sales December 17, 2019. I haven’t ordered the test, but decided to check it out. No word on when the sale ends. It looks like it’s this kit – https://livingdna.com/kit/wellbeing-and-ancestry-kit (currently on sale on LivingDNA for $149, regular price $179). That test includes all of the things mentioned on Sequencing.com –
Sequencing: https://sequencing.com/apps/app-market New sale – https://sequencing.com/membership/get-genome-sequenced-offer sale price $49.00, .regular price $149.00.
In going to their website, it indicates they use LivingDNA kits. There are three options – Silver, Gold, and Platinum. They are all $49 tests, but the monthly fee starts at $11.99 at Silver and gets higher with Gold and Platinum. You do get additional benefits with those levels. In addition, you have to subscribe for three (3) months or risk an early cancellation penalty. You can choose monthly or annual billing. Annual billing includes a 20% discount. There is a $10 shipping fee. Once the kit processes, they will charge you whatever plan and billing plan you went with (Silver, Gold, Platinum; monthly, yearly).
LivingDNA tests over 698,000 SNPs, including over 17,000 X-DNA SNPs. It also tests 22,500 Y-DNA SNPs and 4,700 mtDNA SNPs (out of 16,569 mtDNA SNPs). The test does give you a rough estimate on your Y-DNA (males only) and mtDNA haplogroups. For better resolution, you would need a deeper Y-DNA or mtDNA test from FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA), YSEQ.net, or another company that does deeper Y-DNA and mtDNA tests.
If you have already tested directly with LivingDNA, you may check with Sequencing.com to see what’s available and how it works.
