I posted about DUKWs the other day – How a World Class Coast Guard Rescuer Sank a DUKW — And Still Pulled Off an Extraordinary Rescue — The Frump Report: News, Reviews, Stories and Books from Author Robert R. Frump which was a serious story.
While the company calls them Ducks, the vehicles are DUKWs – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DUKW – Chattanooga Ducks – YouTube Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGYPoYFKfLI (about 38:04 minutes long).
Prior to seeing them in person, I always wanted to own a DUKW. In a D-Day diorama I owned, the DUKW wasn’t that much bigger than the toy soldiers. I was in Chattanooga about mid-October 2011 for a conference. As we were walking around downtown, I saw my first in-person DUKW. It convinced me short of hiring a driver for a DUKW would be a have-to as it was much taller than I imagined. Due to time and money constraints, I wasn’t able to ride in one.
