Updated November 14, 2019 as some things were missing from the original post.
It’s been a while since I focused on a Kickstarter campaign. This one, Dispel Dice – https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dispeldice/dispel-dice, looks ready to set an impressive record for a dice crowdfunding campaign. It started November 6 and runs until December 9, 2019. Its campaign goal was $20,000.00 and it’s already at $2,002,144 as of four hours ago. This was similar to another Kickstarter dice campaign by Kraken Dice – https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/krakendice/iconic-mythical-collection-rpg-dice-sets-by-kraken/ who raised $1,024,774 during their campaign.
By comparison, here are the Kicktraq stats for both campaigns: Dispel Dice: https://www.kicktraq.com/projects/dispeldice/dispel-dice/ and Kraken Dice – https://www.kicktraq.com/projects/1871258192/iconic-mythical-collection-rpg-dice-sets-by-kraken/ which I believe ended May 29, 2018.
I find the Dispel Dice overpriced at almost $7 each if you only order a single set. It goes down slightly if you order enough sets, but not by a whole lot. Personally, I find $4 each is about the maximum I will go unless there is something unique about the dice – wood, metal, etc.
Going to be interesting to see if they can keep the trend going in terms of actually hitting several million more than their current pledge levels.
I haven’t dealt directly with either company, but seen enough customer complaints against Kraken Dice that I would be hesitant to use them. With Dispel Dice, I am not seeing anything that warns me away from buying them, other than the price for the dice in this campaign.
