Best to log-in on Ancestry first if you have a free account as that sometimes solves the please pay to see record issue that happens if you aren’t signed in. As noted below, not all records are free during this free access period. Also, if you save a record to a tree, you won’t be able to view it after the free access ends.
As no doubt some have mistakenly claimed – it is NOT all Ancestry records. That tends to be blindly repeated on social media and blogs every time any of the major genealogy companies offer free limited collection access.
Ancestry often excludes numerous records or collections during these free access events – HONORING VETERANS DAY – SEARCH ALL U.S. MILITARY RECORDS FOR FREE†: https://www.ancestry.com/cs/honor. Access starts in about an hour as they are using U. S. Eastern Time and I am in U. S. Central Time.
†Access to the records in the featured collections will be free until 17 Nov 2019 at 11:59 p.m. ET. After the free access period ends, you will only be able to view the records in the featured collections using an Ancestry® paid membership. To see a full list of the records in the featured collections, please click here.
On the click here link above, its shows what collections are free. It’s a pretty long list or I would add it below. If a collection is not on the list, it’s probably not free unless it normally is free.
They’re not entirely free. As soon as I click on anything, it asks for money.

If I don’t log in first, it tends to take me to a page asking for money.
I always log in on my free account before trying to access Ancestry during the free offers. I gave up on paid Ancestry after an issue on their part led me not being able to use my paid access for over 3.5 months of a paid 6 month subscription.
Been a while since I signed up for a free account, but they try too hard to get you to sing up for a paid subscription.
It would be nice if they made it clearer which collections were free and which weren’t. Some are clearly marked as free, but those tend to be marked that way year round as they are free year round.
