Gaming Sunday October 20, 2019

AS ALWAYS, CHECK PRICES BEFORE ORDERING as sales can end or prices change before I update them. Also, some sales only have so many items or keys available for purchase so the sale ends as soon as they run out of items or keys.

Updated October 23, 2019 to add new Bundle of Holding and remove one that ended.

Over 5,000 words long.

Week 49 Gaming Sunday Week – will do my best to update as needed. The quote below is from my first Gaming Sunday Week post: Gaming Sunday Week of September 30, 2018.

While I will post gaming stuff (RPGs, Wargames, Board Games, Card Games, Computer/Console Games) at other times during the week, I decided to start doing a Gaming Sunday Weekly Post. Among other things, it will include Bundle of Holding (https://bundleofholding.com – generally 3 – 5 bundles active at a time) and Humble Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/ – generally around 5 – 6 bundles active, not including the tons of other sale items that aren’t bundles and a number of bundles that exceeds what I can add here without making it longer than it’s worth) items in this post; some of which won’t be gaming related. I will update the post during the week as bundles go off sale and new bundles come on sale. I won’t be including all of the sale items on Humble Bundle as it can easily exceed a reasonable amount. The good news is you can save an item that has been on sale to a Wish List and you will be notified if and when it comes on sale again. For example, this game was recently on sale: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/search?sort=bestselling&search=mordor – it requires a birthdate if you click on the only game in the list; the sale is over, but you can add it to your Wish List.

I will also include any crowdsources that are gaming related, from Kickstarter, Patreon, IndieGoGo, GoFundMe, etc. For example, The Fantasy Trip by Steve Jackson on https://thefantasytrip.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders which was previously a Kickstarter project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sjgames/the-fantasy-trip-old-school-roleplaying.

Axis and Allies – Zombie Edition: (Temporarily on Sale as of October 23, 2019 – Noble Knight)

Thanks to Noble Knight – https://www.nobleknight.com/P/2147736548/Axis-and-Allies—Zombies for sending me an e-mail about this latest version of Axis and Allies, a World War II board game with numerous editions, including unofficial ones on sites like: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/ – see http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Custom-Maps-Games_c_90.html for some examples.

Here’s the official Avalon Hill (AH) site for the game: http://avalonhill.wizards.com/games/axis-and-allies/zombies. And here’s AH’s Rules PDF for the game: http://media.wizards.com/2018/ah/AAZ-Rulebook.pdf

BackerKit: https://www.backerkit.com/ (for creators and backers of projects) If you backed a project, you can find it at https://www.backerkit.com/are_you_a_backer and some of the companies allow you to pre-order even if you didn’t back a game.

It’s one of several pledge managers used by the different crowdfunding sites. CrowdOx – https://crowdox.com/ and Pledge Managerhttps://signin.pledgemanager.com are other choices made by some campaigns. Additional pledge managers include Gamefound.com – https://gamefound.com/, FluentPM.com – https://www.fluentpm.com/, and Jet Backer – https://platform.jetbacker.com/. mentioned in this post: Interesting Articles about Pledge Managers.

The Fantasy Trip Adventures BackerKit: here’s the Kickstarter campaign for it: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/warehouse23/the-fantasy-trip-adventures?ref=user_menu. This is different from the earlier Kickstarter campaign and they already have a new Kickstarter campaign going. Here’s the old one, but it’s no longer available: https://thefantasytrip.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders/ – ended November 1, 2018. This is a follow-up to The Fantasy Trip Kickstarter project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sjgames/the-fantasy-trip-old-school-roleplaying.

World of Warcraft Diary: if you go to https://thewowdiary.backerkit.com/, it will include the following link for those who didn’t back it: https://thewowdiary.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders. You can also view the campaign at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/whenitsready/the-world-of-warcraft-diary-0

The World of Warcraft Diary

If you missed Kickstarter’s most-funded nonfiction book in history, you can order it here! The WoW Diary was written by the game’s first level designer and covers the story behind making Vanilla WoW. With over 130 behind-the-scenes images and 336 full-color pages, it is the must-have book about game development.

Bundle of Holding Bundles available (as of October 23, 2019) – NOTE: sometimes the bundle price will drop a little bit from the previous day,  but usually the bundle prices tend to go up a lot more than they go down):

Bundle(s) available on Bundle of Holding:

Clockwork & Cthulhuhttps://bundleofholding.com/presents/ClockwkCthulhu

Adventurer! This new Clockwork & Cthulhu Bundle presents alternate-historical Mythos and flintlock-fantasy tabletop roleplaying games from Cakebread & Walton. Clockwork & Chivalry takes you to the English Civil War of 1645, but fought with witchcraft and basilisks, with Francis Bacon’s alchemy and Oliver Cromwell’s war machines. And in the horror campaign supplement Clockwork & Cthulhu and the standalone companion game Dark Streets, the stars align for the return of the Old Gods — the creatures of HP Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. Using the percentile-based Renaissance System adapted from OpenQuest (itself derived from Mongoose Publishing’s RuneQuest), these RPG ebooks transport Investigators and historical game fans to a wild and Sanity-draining past-that-never-was.

For just US$14.95 you get all three complete, current rulebooks in our Starter Collection (retail value $63) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks, including Clockwork & Cthulhu, Dark Streets Second Edition, and Clockwork & Chivalry Second Edition (previously presented in our August 2013 Bundle of the Ages).

And if you pay more than the threshold price of $29.89, you’ll level up and also get our entire Bonus Collection with nine more titles worth an additional $82.50:

Hell on Earthhttp://bundleofholding.com/presents/HellOnEarth

Some of the links below wouldn’t work for me. I didn’t bold the ones I couldn’t get to work. Your mileage may vary (YMMV).

Through MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4 the all-new Deadlands: Hell on Earth Bundle brings you post-apocalyptic action in the Wasted West

Adventurer! You subscribed to this Bundle of Holding mailing list to receive news of our pay-what-you-want collections of tabletop roleplaying game .PDFs and RPG-related ebooks at http://bundleofholding.com.

THE INTRICATE DELICACY OF MAILING LIST SOFTWARE

When this announcement failed to go out yesterday (Monday) afternoon, we discovered last week’s server upgrade had invisibly sabotaged our mailing-list program, Sendy. After lengthy, semi-frantic investigation the Bundle of Holding site programmers discovered that one Sendy method checks its connection to Amazon’s Simple Email Service endpoint by, yes, creating a MySQLi instance right there in the method and also setting error_reporting(0), because what could possibly go wrong, and so — here you chuckle, knowing what’s coming — so, because the method didn’t turn up in a search for dbConnect(), we missed the conflict with our own TLS security patch that sets the session SQL mode so Sendy doesn’t freak out about FULL_GROUP_BY. It happens to all of us from time to time, especially as we get older.

INTO THE WASTED WEST

Through Monday, November 4 the “October Horrors” continue with an all-new and particularly hellish offer, the Deadlands: Hell on Earth Bundle featuring the “Classic” version of Hell on Earth, the Pinnacle Entertainment post-apocalyptic Deadlands Classic setting of road warriors in the Wasted West.

In the centuries after the Weird West game’s alternate history of 1876, horrific other-dimensional entities called the Reckoners fomented warfare and destruction across the American West and the world. In 2081 a devastating Last War released evil spirits and arcane energy, making the entire world a Deadland — but the Reckoners’s own machinations trapped them here on the toxic, irradiated Earth. Now, in 2094, the heroes of the Wasted West try to reclaim the land and destroy the Reckoners.

Compatible with the original 1996 Deadlands Classic and the recent Deadlands 20th Anniversary Edition, Hell on Earth replaces the Weird West’s mad scientists and hucksters with many new and revised player character types: radslinging Doomsayers, brain-burning sykers, scavenging tech-wizard junkers, the Harrowed (walking dead), and righteous Templars. The eclectic post-apocalyptic setting permits wide-ranging and wild campaigns right out of Mad Max, Damnation Alley, Terminator, and Akira. The game’s metaplot introduced an unexpected extraterrestrial element: a space colony, Faraway, founded in 2044 by Helstromme Industries and then stranded after the Last War on Earth. This storyline spawned the third Deadlands game, Lost Colony (2002).

Pinnacle later adapted Hell on Earth for the d20 System and, as Hell on Earth Reloaded, for Savage Worlds. This all-new collection presents almost every book in the 1998 HoE Classic line in pristine .PDF scans with crisp text and artwork. (Iron Oasis is an image scan of lower quality.)

Pay just US$12.95 to get all eleven titles in our Player Collection (retail value $56) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks:

And if you pay more than the threshold (average) price, which is set at $26.62 to start, you’ll level up and also get our entire Marshal Collection with fourteen more titles worth an additional $78:

And if you pay more than the threshold price of $26.50, you’ll level up and also get our entire Marshal Collection with fourteen more titles worth an additional $78:

Ten percent of your payment (after gateway fees) goes to the charity chosen by Shane Hensley of Pinnacle Entertainment, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

All hell will continue to break loose until this Deadlands: Hell on Earth Bundle vanishes Monday, November 4.

Help Gaming Legend Rick Loomis: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-gaming-legend-rick-loomis

Help for a gaming industry founder

Rick Loomis has been an important part of the game industry for almost 50 years, and now he is in the fight of his life with cancer. Even though he is a US army veteran and qualifies for medicare, Rick’s share of the medical bills are now in the tens of thousands of dollars. Please help his family through this terrible time and help keep the  legacy of Flying Buffalo going strong.

Rick was one of the founding members of the Game Manufacturing Association and served as its President several times when they needed him. He started Flying Buffalo Games back in 1970 and was one of the first people to ever run a Play-by Mail game on a dedicated computer. He has traveled the world to promote role-playing and card games and over the years Rick has befriended hundreds (thousands!) of people at conventions from his Flying Buffalo Games booth and company.  He published Tunnels & Trolls, the Nuclear War Card Game, Grimtooth’s Traps and so much more. Rick truly is a legend.  But being a legend doesn’t mean you are wealthy, it just means that some people have respect for your accomplishments.

Brief blurb from the above link:

We are a small board game store based in Inverness, Scotland.

We have been a big member of the board game and trading card game community over the last 3 years.

We have seen our share of hardships and issues in setting up the store. after 3 years of operating we have now hit a tipping point of what to do next.

We are looking to secure fund for refurbishment and upgrade of the gaming space and to help us invest in developing our stock range.

Convergence – a Star Trek Fan Film Indiegogo Campaign: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/convergence-a-star-trek-fan-film#/. Ended November 3, 2018. $7,385 of $5,500 pledged (fully  backed as of November 2, 2018). Will keep pending updates on Backerkit which hasn’t shown up yet.
According to https://fanfilmfactor.com/2018/10/27/convergence-releases-one-of-the-best-crowd-funding-videos-ive-ever-seen/, this is the secondprise (their word, not mine) “ask” video they have ever seen:
This 3-minute vignette is now my second favorite crowd-funding “ask” video ever.  Why is it my second favorite?  Well, nothing will likely ever surpass this video (and the four that came after it) from Star Trek Continues‘ “Kirkstarter 2.0.”  But the reason this Convergence video gets the secondprise (get it?), is because it has so much fun while asking folks to donate.
They recommend bookmarking it if you plan on any sort of crowdfunding/sourcing campaign.

Fairytale the Roleplaying Game Indiegogo Project: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/fairytale-the-roleplaying-game/x/19581145#/. Here’s the Kicktraq for the campaign: http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/cns5/chivalry-and-sorcery-the-medieval-role-playing-game/.

Also, in looking at DriveThru RPG (DTRPG) earlier, I noticed a number of items on sale at Brittannia Game Designs – https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/3675/Brittannia-Game-Designs-Ltd/subcategory/6429/Chivalry–Sorcery.

Zorro™: The Roleplaying Game: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gallantknightgames/zorrotm-the-roleplaying-game I did a blog post on this game Zorro RolePlaying Game Kickstarter Campaign Ends February 22, 2019.

This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Fri, February 22 2019 6:00 PM CST. $32,124 pledged (as of February 24, 2019) of $15,000 goal; fully funded. Campaign over, waiting on pledge manager if they go that route – nothing showing up as of October 23, 2019.

Chimera Comics Cellar Door Sci-Fi and Horror Graphic Novel Anthology: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chimerascomics/cellar-door-a-scifi-and-horror-graphic-novel-antho/ (sci-fi and horror collection, parental guidance advised). $8,477 pledged of $11,000 by 160 backers of campaign (as of November 23, 2018). Not mentioned in the article is the Live Stream October 31, 2018 about the campaign; you can get a free preview (link is a bit down the Kickstarter page, or try https://mailchi.mp/chimerascomics.com/look-in-the-cellar – link shows as http://bit.ly/lookinthecellar which redirects to the Mail Chimp link I added). If you pledged $20 or more in the first 72 hours of the campaign, then you get an exclusive item, 8.5″ x 11″ print (shipping is another $2 for U.S. addresses).

The products were delayed due to a random Customs check in late July 2019, but should be sent to backers by the end of October 2019. As of August 31, 2019, many have not received their rewards which is why I changed the date.

Thousand Year Old Vampire Kickstarter RPG Campaign: Late Backers accepted (may no longer be available as of October 23, 2019) – https://shop.trycelery.com/page/d3060069-61df-4789-a974-f4e1fc9a499d; original campaign https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/timh/thousand-year-old-vampire-a-roleplaying-game Ended November 16, 2018 1:15 AM CST. Fully funded: $37,102 pledged by 1,423 backers of $500 goal. Several F-bombs in the Kickstarter description although that’s because one of the items available if you back at $35 or higher is a LARP book with it in the title.

The game mechanics are simple and intuitive. Play progresses semi-randomly through a book of Prompts which let you explore your vampire’s wants and needs, resolve problems, and chart the decline into senescence. Play can happen entirely within the character sheet or can become a journaling activity–both work equally well.

Vampires, for the purposes of this game, can mean nearly anything that is functionally immortal, doesn’t like daylight, and preys on humans for sustenance. I like Montague Summers-type vampires myself, but this system is designed to be flexible.

All you need is the book or PDF, a d10, and a d6. This is a solo game for you to play in lonely places wrapped in darkness, but can be played multiplayer if you like. Play can take from one to three hours, depending on how you go about things.

Chibi Siblings of Conflict Kickstarter Campaign: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/674003445/chibi-siblings-of-conflict-miniatures. Ended November 15, 2018. $12,051 pledged of $2,300 goal; 181 backers. Fully funded! Leaving up temporarily. Late Backers link: https://app.crowdox.com/projects/674003445/chibi-siblings-of-conflict-miniatures (still available as of October 23, 2019).

Americana RPG Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sandypuggames/americana-1: Campaign ended, but you can follow if you want to order and missed the cut-off. They will be doing a video update in the near future – will link to it once they add it. Still waiting on a pledge manager (Backerkit, etc.) to show up as of October 23, 2019. They are closer to getting stuff out as a recent update on Kickstarter announced.

Americana RPG is a new RPG being developed by Sandy Pug Games: http://www.sandypuggames.com/. They started a Kickstarter campaign at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sandypuggames/americana-1. I added it to Gaming Sunday Week of October 21, 2018. Fully funded ($12,574 pledged of $6,800 goal) as of November 1, 2018 and ended Thursday, November 1, 2018 9:54 AM CDT. You can follow along if you were interested and didn’t back it. Here are some more links for Sandy Pug Games link for all of their DriveThru RPG (DTRPG) products: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/7386/Sandy-Pug-Games. You can also follow them on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/SandyPugGames and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SandyPugGames/.

It’s an unusual concept for an RPG (“A game of teenage rebellion and murder in a fantastical 50s that never was” – from the Kickstarter campaign), but you can get a free quick preview from DriveThru RPG (DTRPG): https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/256782/Americana–Preview-Quickplay-Pack?manufacturers_id=7386. You can also download the file at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lpbN1YtyQ9J2yhGLtEfi43JjI9PqD9Hd.

From the DTRPG link:

Americana is an RPG set in a fantasy, inclusive 1950s small town, somewhere in the United States. Your best friend is dead, and you think it’s murder. Gather their other friends, follow the clues and investigate your town full of magic, wonder, gangs and risks to track down the killer and bring them to justice. Take control of one of 6 archetypes (Jock, Nerd, Outsider, New Kid, Artist, Royal) each with their own unique strengths and abilities, build Your Dead Friend, the victim of this murder, whose abilities and inspiration will aid you in discovering the truth behind their grisly fate, and build an incredible, magical town full of fantasy and wonder to explore.

The game takes place in a 50s vastly different than the one we’re used to. For a start, the world is full of magic. Orcs and Dwarves are going steady at the drive-in, Elves and Dragons are taking a trip to Look-out Point and your principal is a kindly skeleton that fought against Charlemagne. The world is also massively more progressive than the 50s ever was, systemic oppression of marginalized people is an alien concept in the world of Americana.

This is a free quickplay set that shows off some of the systems and world of Americana and hopefully get you excited for the full product. It includes just about everything you need to get started with your own murder mystery – some small lore details, character sheets and a stripped back version of the full rules.

If this catches your interest, Americana is already 100% funded on Kickstarter, so head on over and check out some of our reward tiers and stretch goals – which include a super sentai, power rangers inspired twist on the core setting and rules!

Bunnies and Barrows 3rd Edition Kickstarter: Campaign has ended; should be a Backerkit added in the near future; may be a bit as they are going to conventions soon. DNA of the Greatest Warriors in History Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/altavilla/dna-of-the-greatest-warriors-in-historynot gaming related although an argument could be made that warriors are RPG and Wargaming related.
