I saw this on YouTube – Everyone Thought He Was Just A School Janitor, Then They Discovered His Heroic WWII Past: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y46QTMtPF-4 (around 6:50 minutes long).
Not to spoil the story too much, but he was presumed dead when the Medal of Honor was presented to his father. He wasn’t dead, but I will leave it at that since the rest of the story as to what happened to him is covered several places, including https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_J._Crawford.
I was familiar with the story as I have seen other bloggers post about it and articles by websites. I think this article was the first time I read about his story: https://www.warhistoryonline.com/world-war-ii/air-force-academy-janitor-medal-of_honor-x.html.
