This week, I went looking for areas in southern Kansas as last week’s Kansas Tuesdays post was from northern Kansas. I went with Atlas Obscura to see what they had for Kansas. There were some good possibilities, but many were in northern Kansas or not too far from Mitchell County. I reviewed several choices before deciding on Utopia College – https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/utopia-college in Eureka, Greenwood County. I re-blogged a post earlier today that was near Eureka, Kansas – A Stone Arch Bridge for Greenwood County — Homestead on the Range.
I am not sure how much I will find on Utopia College, later renamed to Midwest Institute of Business Administration, or its founder, Roger Babson. Babson was from New England. In a strange twist, he moved back to near Boston on the theory it would be far enough away from a nuclear blast he would be safe. I think that shows how out of touch he was with how many nukes the USSR had. Two of his colleges are still around – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Babson. He had an interesting life.
