Helping a Friend Find Where Some Relatives Are Buried – September 28, 2019

I have been busy helping a friend figure out where five (5) of her relatives were buried. They are not on Find-A-Grave or BillionGraves. I found the most recent one had an obituary on The others died between the 1970s and 1990s. I noticed they had obits on Another friend was around who has a subscription and he printed off those obits for me. I am checking with the funeral homes and cemeteries before adding them. This has taken a lot longer than I anticipated it would just to find the obits. Thankfully, Ancestry allows you to see enough of the article on to decide if it’s an obit or the correct person.

I am re-writing the obits in my own words to avoid copyright issues. My obit format is significantly different than most newspaper and funeral home obit formats. I also remove the names of living people to stay within Find-A-Grave guidelines on not listing living people. For those I know are dead, I will include death year, Find-A-Grave memorial, and try to get them linked if they are parent/child or spouses. I encourage re-writing obits to avoid copyright issues.
