I saw this the other day, but kept forgetting to post about it SeekingMichigan.org Website is Moving – July 29, 2019: https://seekingmichigan.org/look/2019/07/29/seekingmichigan-org-is-moving. The new URL will be http://www.michiganology.org/ (NOT WORKING UNTIL AUGUST 31, 2019!).
FYI, you are not supposed to include URLs on Find-A-Grave except for those linking to other Find-A-Grave memorials. Plus, the admins tend to remove URLs that violate this policy. I would disagree with their comment to download the image and upload it to other sites as Ancestry and its various sub-sites have a permanent clause that once uploaded, Ancestry can kept images on their various sites forever.
Q: What about all of the URLs of death certificates that I put on Find a Grave?!
A: We tried very hard to make something work for this problem. But in the end, there is no way we can redirect the URLs to Michiganology.org. We are working with Find a Grave, Ancestry.com, and FamilySearch.org to include a message on items that would have links back to SeekingMichigan.org. While we cannot redirect these URLs, we can communicate that the items can be found on Michiganology.org. We caution you to not use URLs in this way. Rather, download the image and upload it to other websites (with citations of course).
It does raise a point that many other sites have for the old site’s URLs to the old site will no longer work.
Also, some things will take longer to migrate to the new site so check the old site if you don’t see it on the new site.
Q: I use the SeekingMichigan.org county guides. Will they go away?
A: County guides, subject guides, indexes, and general information about Archives of Michigan services and collections will eventually move over to Michigan.gov. We will send another notice when this is complete. Right now you can still find all of this information on SeekingMichigan.org.
