After seeing Homesteading as a suggestion on the WordPress Reader, I decided to check out both WordPress and YouTube. Here’s one YouTube video I found – My Warning to All Of You About To Start Homesteading – YouTube Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO0l1tuGhQ0 (around 15:27 minutes long).
I am not a prepper. My half-aunt and her husband lived in a small town in northwest Kansas. They lived near the western edge of town. They had a decent sized lot that included a 1 acre garden and a root cellar. The back of the garage was turned into a chicken coop that could easily handle 100 chickens. Every few years they would buy 100 chickens to raise for food. They had a deep freezer to store the chickens. On the garden, they raised all sorts of vegetables – tomatoes, green beans, and pretty much any other vegetables that could be grown and canned in their area. They kept the canned items in the root cellar and used them as needed. They weren’t fully self-sufficient as they still purchased items (milk, meat, fruits, vegetables that couldn’t be grown locally, etc.) from the local grocery store.
