In keeping with the last few days where a number of posts were Florida related, I chose this YouTube video – We Try to Pronounce Florida Town Names.

My wife watches these videos from to time and ask me to watch it with her. There’s some interesting pronunciations of places in the South!

I grew up in south Mississippi and visited New Orleans on occasion. Many of the French pronunciations were dropped long ago in the area, and some of the Cajun/Creole pronunciations would make a French person cringe in horror. That’s not counting the local variations where the natives in a town pronounce it one way, those from other parts of the state pronounce it a different way, and others pronounce it a third way.

Crazy. I served in the Marines with a bunch of Cajuns. Including one that they all say is the Cajuns of all Cajuns. What an accent I never heard of before until then! I’m from California so it was a culture shock lol
