As somebody who has a 60% hearing loss in my bad ear and a 40% hearing loss in my good ear, I have to rely on Closed Captioning (CC) and/or transcripts when I watch a YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch.tv, Discord, or any other video that has CC / transcripts as options. My phones and laptop don’t have loud enough speakers, combined with the fact that most vloggers talk so low to make the need for good CC or transcripts a necessity. I will include bloggers who include vlogs on their blogs.
Unfortunately, most of the CC and transcripts are so full of errors on the sites that allow these choices as to make it a chore (think fingernails on blackboard kind of chore) that is painful to try and read them. Oftentimes, the words inserted by the program have nothing to do with the actual words said by the vlogger. There are many vloggers I subscribed to follow, but don’t watch their videos because they don’t take the time to make sure the CC and transcripts are readable.
Another option is to either include CC or transcripts as part of your videos. I have several vloggers who go this route, like Allec Joshua Ibay: https://www.youtube.com/user/delanyify. I can’t find a transcript example at the moment, but several have included a split screen where one side is the video and the other side is the transcript.
In some of the comments on various YouTube channels, people have volunteered to do the CC or transcripts for vloggers who may be too busy to do it.
