I saw this on Bundle of Holding recently – added to Gaming Sunday June 9, 2019.
New Bundle of Holding Empire of the Petal Throne June 11, 2019:
These are PDFs, but they are not OCR copies so you will have to read through them.
Adventurer! This Tékumel Bundle presents the astonishing science fantasy tabletop roleplaying campaign setting Tékumel created by Professor M.A.R. Barker (1929-2012). Unmatched in its depth and intricacy, Tékumel is a far-future world of 14 intelligent species, inventive and flavorful cultures, ancient technology, psychic powers, a history spanning 30 millennia, and several constructed languages. The Tékumel Foundation has authorized this bargain-priced introduction to Barker’s magnificent world, with two complete roleplaying games, maps, histories, journals, and — a first for the Bundle of Holding — language books!Any gathering of published Tékumel material is really a “starter collection,” but for just US$6.95 you get all eight titles in this particular Starter Collection (retail value $37) as DRM-free .PDF ebooks, including the complete Empire of the Petal Throne RPG; maps of the Five Empires and the city of Jakálla; the histories The Ever-Glorious Empire and Deeds of the Ever-Glorious; and a compilation of lore from Professor Barker’s own long-running campaign, Notes From the Thursday Night Group.
And if you pay more than the threshold price of $18.95 (as of June 11, 2019), you’ll level up and also get our entire Bonus Collection with seven more titles worth an additional $50, including the complete two-volume Swords & Glory RPG (Gamescience, 1983-84) plus its Combat and Sorcery Summary; two linguistic treatises, The Tsolyáni Language and Tsolyáni Primer; and both issues of the Tékumel Journal.
(Most of these files are .PDF image scans of the original 1970s and ’80s hardcopies. The text is crisp and readable, but no optical character recognition has been applied.)

This is a slightly different RolePlaying Game (RPG) than most of the RPGs that were created in the early 1970s and early 1980s. It has been labeled fantasy, but many argue it’s science fantasy (mix of science fiction and fantasy), and a few argue it’s science fiction. Here’s the Wikipedia article on it – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_of_the_Petal_Throne. There’s a website dedicated to the RPG: http://www.tekumel.com/gaming_rulesEPT.html and https://web.archive.org/web/20180924224736/http://www.tekumel.com/gaming_rulesEPT.html (Wayback Machine) if the URL doesn’t work.
Some of the books and sourcebooks are available on DriveThru RPG (DTRPG) – http://www.drivethrurpg.com/ and type in Tékumel to see what’s available. However, most if not all of the material on DTRPG is available here.
I didn’t know a lot of people who played the game, but the few I did know enjoyed it. Others complained it was too complicated.
