If you are taking vacations or going to be away from home this summer for too long, or any time for that matter, please don’t advertise it on social media. Likewise, if you are visiting family or friends, have them wait until you are back home before posting photos or comments.
For example, last year I went to a conference, but if you checked my social media or even my blog posts, I did not advertise the fact until after I was back home. If you, or your family and friends announce it, then don’t be surprised if your home gets broken into. Hopefully, it won’t happen, but I have seen it happen often enough that I do my best to not advertise. For example, I recently spent two days at a conference out of state. Again, I didn’t mention it until after I was back. I also kept my blog posting up as well.
My friends went on a vacation a while back, but they had me house-sit while they were away. That’s a better option if you announce to the world you aren’t going to be at home for an extended period.
