Found: The Goofiest Crab That Ever Lived – Atlas Obscura

I signed up for e-mails from Atlas Obscura – https://www.atlasobscura.com/. In today’s e-mail, I saw this article – Found: The Goofiest Crab That Ever Lived – https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/found-the-goofiest-crab-ever.

It has the legs of a sea scorpion, the body of a lobster, and the eyes of an enormous larva.

The creature transfixed him so deeply that Luque switched gears from dinosaurs and toward prehistoric crustaceans. Officially a crab—though technically a mystery—Callichimaera represents a novel branch in the modern crab’s ancestral tree, though its body parts bear an uncanny resemblance to animals from other groups. For this reason, Luque calls it “the platypus of the crab world.”

If you are not familiar with Atlas Obscura, here’s its About page: https://www.atlasobscura.com/about.

We are a global community of explorers, who have together created a comprehensive database of the world’s most wondrous places and foods —17,709 of them contributed by our community so far, and more every day, from a secret apartment atop the Eiffel Tower to bridges built out of living roots, from a temple shaped like a chicken to an island ruled by cats, from a fruit that tastes like chocolate pudding to a spicy chutney made out of red ants.

If you want to be involved, they welcome contributions. You can also add Been There, Want to Visit, or Add to List.
