Arsonist Starts Fire at National Archives April 25, 2019

Thankfully, the damage wasn’t as bad as it could be. Arsonist Starts Fire at National Archives: https://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/nr19-49. I ran across this story yesterday. This isn’t the first fire at an institution like this one, and probably won’t be the last one. I have reported on several fires, some arson-related, some not,

Four-alarm fire blazes through St. Louis museum of rare documents – Karpeles Manuscript Museum,

Gulfport (Florida) Historical Museum/Society Labor Day 2018 Fire, among others. I also haven’t posted about some fires.

Unfortunately, many of the records at the various places that had fires are not digitized. That means if the fire destroys any records, they are probably gone for good if there weren’t copies elsewhere. It doesn’t matter how the fire was caused when it comes to the loss of records.
