I found what I thought was going to be an easy North Carolina Thursdays item to post about, but in doing research, I found there were at least several variations (think Wright Brothers) of it so I will be working on it for a future North Carolina Thursdays.
I decided instead to focus today’s North Carolina Thursdays on the North Carolina Military History Museum – https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/29630. It’s now on my Bucket List. Note: this is a different museum from WNC Military History Museum AKA Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas – North Carolina Thursdays. There are a few other military history museums in North Carolina. Turns out this post led me to places I hadn’t expected after doing more research after posting it.

Directions: From Kure Beach take 421 South, turn right on Riverfront Rd. Turn right to stay on Riverfront Rd, watch for tanks and helicopter next to parking lot.
