ZuyuanDNA Free Raw Data Transfers + $99 Kits

I saw ZuyuanDNA mentioned in the ISOGG Facebook group. I was glad the website was in English as I don’t read Chinese.

ZuyuanDNA is a Chinese company with a focus on Chinese relatives, but you may have Chinese relatives and not know it. There are also a number of non-Chinese couples who have adopted Chinese children.  For example, Americans adopted 78,257 Chinese children between 1999 and 2016 – https://internationaladoption.org/6-statistics-china-international-adoption/.

If you have tested with 23andMe (v3 – v5 chips), AncestryDNA, FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA), or MyHeritageDNA, then you can do a free raw data transfer to ZuyuanDNA. You will get five (5) free trait reports if you upload your raw data. To upload your DNA raw data, go to https://www.zuyuandna.cn/upload-dna-data (FAQs in the link answer how to upload if you aren’t sure what to do). They do a CODIS test if you order a kit from them, but make it clear, this is to connect you to close Chinese family members who have tested. See below for more information on CODIS.

What Personal Traits reports can I get?

You can get 5 Personal Traits reports on:

  • ABO blood group

Their test looks at 700K SNPs and includes CODIS results as I mentioned above.

How it works: https://www.zuyuandna.cn/how-it-works

We use leading DNA technology

Your autosomal DNA is genotyped by using a customized 700K-marker Illumina Asian Screening Array (ASA), developed by top genetic scientists in China, Japan, Singapore and other Asian countries. It is the world’s first Asian population specific gene chip, which captures 60% more DNA variants than gene chips used by 23andMe or AncestryDNA.

This gene chip enables us to give you, the ethnic Chinese, more DNA relative matches and unprecedented accurate reports on your ancestry estimates, personal traits and health.

Your Codis DNA is typed by using traditional paternity testing technology which have been used by forensic labs in China for more than 20 years.

4.Our DNA database grows larger everyday, so do the databases of family member search Volunteer Groups in China.

Unless you opt-out, your DNA will be matched with both our Autosomal DNA database and Codis DNA databases operated by Volunteer Groups in China.

Autosomal DNA matching

Your Autosomal DNA data will be matched with every people in our Autosomal DNA database to find DNA relatives from as close as immediate family members to as distant as 4th cousins. When a new DNA relative match shows up, you will receive an email report on the details of the matched DNA relative.

Codis DNA matching

Your Codis DNA data will be transferred to all the major Codis DNA databases operated by family member search Volunteer Groups in China (you can choose anonymously or not). If your birth parents were already in those databases or join the databases in the future, you’ll be matched with them. We’ll notify you by email and SMS about the new match. The Volunteer Groups include: Baobeihuijia, Help For Family Reunion, Di’an DNA Reunion and Jiangyin Tracing Volunteers.

I uploaded my 23andM3 (v3 chip) as it has the most SNPs of the ones I have tested directly. It uploaded very fast. I don’t know how fast I will get results, but I will post once I do and update this post.

It’s worth checking out even if you don’t have Chinese relatives. At some point, I will order a DNA test from them to see the other 75+ reports that aren’t included in the free raw data upload.
