If You Encourage Using Kindle Unlimited to Read Your Books, Are You Also Disclosing You Get Paid When People Do?

While I have talked about the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and its guidelines on affiliate links and other ways you are at risk as a blogger, I haven’t addressed one of the worst ways an author can get busted by the FTC.

Don’t assume that most readers who use Kindle Unlimited (KU) are aware that an author make money for each page a reader views. It’s not a lot of money per page (estimated at around half a penny/page ($0.005), but some authors are making a lot of money, as in $10,000 – 25,000/month from KU. That’s a sizeable chunk of change, but I don’t see many authors letting potential readers know they are making money off page reads.

As I have said before, and will continue to say, authors and others need to inform people when they making money off a link, be it an affiliate link or a KU link. AND they need to give people a reasonable estimate of how much the links are generating in income.
