Exclusive: The FBI Had Already Accessed Family Tree DNA’s Database Before Cooperation

This is disturbing on so many levels. Exclusive: The FBI Had Already Accessed Family Tree DNA’s Database Before Cooperation: https://www.forensicmag.com/news/2019/03/exclusive-fbi-had-already-accessed-family-tree-dnas-database-cooperation. When combined with this article DNA evidence and miscarriages of justice – ScienceDirect, it becomes obvious the FBI is out of control and has been for a while. They should have went with subpoenas, warrants, and other court orders instead of what they did. Personally, I believe FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA) should have responded by requiring them to get court orders instead of rolling over.

At some point, the courts are going to get involved and hopefully make the right decision as opposed to making a politically popular decision. Unfortunately, I expect they will go with the politically popular decision. Many states don’t allow “fishing expeditions” by law enforcement and that’s exactly what the FBI is doing. The U. S. Supreme Court has a mixed bag on “fishing expeditions” where they have allowed some and disallowed others.
