Crowdfunding Creators – Be Wary of Scammers

I ran across this article, https://www.engadget.com/2019/01/31/my-other-life-as-a-kickstarter-scammer/, when I restarted Firefox. It’s by a journalist who was the victim of identity theft by a scammer who pretended to be him. If you create a crowdfunding campaign, don’t be surprised if you get the same or a similar scammer. It doesn’t matter what crowdfunding site you use: Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Patreon, GoFundMe, or any of the other ones.

I was the victim of identity theft back in 2011. They didn’t get anything because my ex-wife had ruined our credit shortly before the attempt. She fell victim to a Nigerian love scammer before it happened to the tune of a fairly decent size of money.

The above applies to backers of crowdfunding as well, but I covered tips for backers in December 2018: Crowdfunding YouTube Videos and Some Alleged Crowdfunding Scams.
