Updated December 3, 2018: MyHeritageDNA has extended the deadline to December 15, 2018: https://blog.myheritage.com/2018/12/free-dna-uploads-deadline-extended/. I added a new post: MyHeritageDNA Free Unlimited Transfer Extended to December 15, 2018 and $59 DNA Sale Ends December 3, 2018.
Today, November 30, 2018, is the last day for the free full transfer of your raw data to MyHeritageDNA – https://www.myheritage.com/dna. Their current $49.00 DNA sale (free shipping if you order 2+ tests in one order) ends in two days. If you upload before the deadline, you are grandfathered in so you won’t lose any benefits. That’s a huge plus as some companies only make the benefits available for a short time.
Contrary to some claims on Facebook and other social media, you can still transfer your raw data for free after today, but it’s a limited transfer. You won’t get certain benefits that you get if you upload before the deadline. https://blog.myheritage.com/2018/09/new-myheritage-supports-23andme-v5-and-living-dna-uploads/ explains what you won’t get if you upload starting tomorrow:
As of December 1, 2018, our policy regarding DNA uploads will change: DNA Matching will remain free for uploaded DNA data, but unlocking additional DNA features (for example, ethnicity estimate, chromosome browser, and some others) will require an extra payment for DNA files uploaded after this date. We will announce the full details of the new policy once it is finalized, closer to December 1st. All DNA data that was uploaded to MyHeritage in the past, and all DNA data that is uploaded now and prior to December 1, 2018, will continue to enjoy full access to all DNA features for free. These uploads will be grandfathered in and will remain free.
So, don’t delay, and upload your DNA data to MyHeritage now, while all the DNA features are free (and they will remain free for you). If you have tested with 23andMe (any versions including v5) or Living DNA, you’re in luck, and you can now upload this data to MyHeritage too. You can also upload DNA data from Ancestry and Family Tree DNA’s Family Finder test. Instructions for exporting your data and uploading it to MyHeritage are provided on our upload page.
It does mention offering a way to pay to unlock the additional features, but I didn’t see a price. Hopefully, they will do something similar to what FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA) offers. You get a free limited transfer, but for $19.00, you get full access. FTDNA sometimes offers the upgrade for $10.00. LivingDNA indicated it will do an upgrade for full access if you do a free limited transfer there, but hasn’t indicated how much it will charge. Don’t know if FindMyPastDNA will follow along as they are using LivingDNA to process their tests.
