Dinosaur Park, Derby Kansas November 29, 2018

Originally started this post near the end of July 2018.

Since Facebook and Find-A-Grave both are bombarding me with Dinosaur Park ads today (July 30, 2018), I ran across this park a few weeks back as I was riding my bike. I saw a dinosaur on my ride back from MHGS. It was in a parking lot. When I got home, I did a search online and found there was a new Dinosaur Park in the area: https://kansasdinos.com/. It’s a few miles away and I haven’t been to it as it’s about 3 times as far as I usually bike in one round-trip. There is another Dinosaur Park in New Jersey that’s part of this system. Both parks allow online ordering of tickets and note the ticket prices listed don’t include sales tax and $3.50 transaction fee for ordering online so factor those costs into your equation when ordering online. It should give you a total price before you check out.

From their website:

The Field Station is a wild scientific expedition just 10 minutes south of Wichita on Rock Road in Derby.  Over 40 life-sized, moving, realistic dinosaurs come to life thanks to the brilliant engineering of the world’s leading roboticists and the imagination of our artists.

On a related note, I visited a low tech Dinosaur Park in Rapid City, South Dakota back in the mid-1970s: http://www.blackhillsbadlands.com/business/dinosaur-park.

Another attraction, closed now, that I visited when I was in South Dakota was Flintstones  Bedrock Village; be advised it is private property and I would suggest you get permission before attempting to visit it now. https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2214; https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60865-d209284-Reviews-Flintstones_Bedrock_City-Custer_South_Dakota.html.; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedrock_City_(South_Dakota). There are some YouTube videos of Bedrock City: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvjJIhkZG-Q; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsYvPZZgp0A; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCmgZBnzCTE; probably a number of other YouTube videos (just make sure it’s the Custer, South Dakota one and not the Arizona one (see below) as searches tend to turn up both parks.

I haven’t been to it, but there was a similar Flintstones themed park in Arizona (closed now as well as owner is trying to sell it; private property so get permission before visiting)https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g31407-d534990-Reviews-Flintstone_s_Bedrock_City-Williams_Arizona.html, https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11289https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedrock_City_(Arizona) with YouTube video (may be other YouTube videos): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEM6CX2kAFY; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QABtLVb9zkc.
