Current October 2018 DNA Sales

Last updated mid afternoon of October 31, 2018 (Happy Halloween) ; updated October 30, 2018: Dante Labs has one test on sale for $399.00 (regular price is $899.00, but often on sale for $599.00 and made other prices as needed; updated October 29, 2018 (apparently WordPress ate some of my earlier updates; it’s done that several times recently): adjusted prices up or down for those kits with price changes; updated October 25, 2018 – removed HomeDNA GPS Origins as the promo code has stopped working when I tried it, added a note about some progress on matching with LivingDNA, and changed prices as needed;  updated October 24, 2018 – changed prices as needed – updated October 22, 2018: AncestryDNA was temporarily not available on Amazon, but it only lasted a few hours; updated October 17, 2018: added HomeDNA’s GPS Origins $99 sale to list; updated October 16, 2018 added AncestryDNA $69 Sale and removed MyHeritageDNA sale; October 13, 2018 – couple of major sale price changes including Geno 2.0 Next going off sale; updated October 11, 2018 – notably Geno 2.0 Next on the National Geographic website and Dante Labs Amazon price increase for one test. updated previously added Amazon link for LivingDNA as it’s now available on Amazon. Updated October 5, 2018: Raised Dante Labs price as they went up $100 on two of the tests on their website; most likely the next biggest sale will be Black Friday/Cyber Monday for most companies although a few may do sporadic sales between now and then; (NOTE: None of the Amazon or other links below are affiliate links – they are direct links to the product or product line on Amazon, GroupOn, EBay, or to the company’s website). Prices with * tend to change prices on Amazon daily or almost daily, prices with ** tend to change less frequently on Amazon than daily, but more frequently than the majority of tests on Amazon that only infrequently change prices.

As always, check prices before you order! You can also check EBay and Amazon in case you find a lower price there, but make sure it’s for the same company and test. Some of the companies show an end date for their sale prices, but many don’t. Amazon loves to raise and lower prices on DNA tests on a somewhat regular basis, usually every few days for some of the major companies, bit less often for other companies.

As of October 31, 2018 (original post was on October 1, 2018, and modified as needed), the following companies are offering DNA sales. I am also including the general pricing for a number of other DNA companies that aren’t offering sales right now. I will update this post as new sales are added or current sales end.

Tests on Sale (usually checked daily, and sometimes several times a day as Amazon has a habit of raising or lowering prices later in the day):

23andMehttps://www.23andme.com/ Ancestry (ethnicity) only kit regular price $99Amazon link and free shipping: https://www.amazon.com/23andMe-Ancestry-Personal-Genetic-Service/dp/B01LZ5K87Z/ sale price $69.00; Ancestry + Health regular price $199. Amazon has Ancestry + Health – https://www.amazon.com/23andMe-DNA-Test-Ancestry-collection/dp/B01G7PYQTM/, regular price $199.00  (last update check mid afternoon of October 31, 2018, but can vary every couple of days so check Amazon).

AncestryDNA: https://www.ancestry.com/dna/ https://www.amazon.com/AncestryDNA-Genetic-Testing/dp/B00TRLVKW0/  in addition to the $89 sale price for second and additional kits purchased in one order (first test costs regular price of $99) if ordered from AncestryDNA, Amazon has a sale price of  $81.99* (valid as of mid afternoon of October 31, 2018, but Amazon often changes the price about every day for this test) plus free shipping. Check other vendors on Amazon as sometimes they are cheaper than the listed Amazon price in the link.

Don’t know if this is a targeted sale on the AncestryDNA site or available to everyone, but seeing on their website if I go to add a DNA test; I also see it if I am not logged into my account

SAVE NOW. Add more kits to your order for only $89/ea

Also, check EBay as you can often find AncestryDNA kits cheaper on it. In general, you can usually find Buy It Now AncestryDNA kits around $45 – 55 on EBay (make sure it’s an AncestryDNA kit as EBay searches often pull up other companies’ kits when using Ancestry DNA as your search parameter); for the auctions, it can vary widely depending on how an auction goes.

Dante Labshttps://us.dantelabs.com/collections/our-testscheck Amazon as they are sometimes temporarily offering great deals on some Dante Labs kits – see Dante Labs Amazon Sale Prices (updated September 4th with additional clarification from Dante Labs) for more details. Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) – $399 (regular price $899.00 on Dante Labs website) – on Amazon (link broken since September 6, 2018 as it looks like they removed it, will continue to monitor daily on the off-chance they add it back to Amazon) with free shipping; Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) – sale price $549.00 (regular price $750) – looks like they removed it from the company’s website sometime between October 18 and 19, 2018); on Amazon (on sale at Amazon for $349.00 and $599.00, $399 is if you order a kit from Dante Labs or if you send them extracted DNA) with free shipping. DNA Passporthttps://www.helix.com/shop/humancode-dna-passport/ sale price $29.99 for test + another $20 if individual needs Helix DNA kit (regular price is $49.99 and Helix kit is $80.00); check on Amazon ($22.49* as of October 31, 2018, but price changes on a regular, almost daily, basis; usually, but not always cheaper, on Helix if you already have a Helix DNA kit; as of mid afternoon October 30, 2018, it’s a lot cheaper on Amazon if you need a Helix DNA kit since Amazon offers free shipping although it can change in price on Amazon quite fast) Note: one of the cheaper Helix kit prices currently available if you need a Helix kit. Sometimes, Helix will offer a sale where Helix kit is free with some tests, but only if you order the kit with those tests with the lower Helix kit price. In general, you only need one Helix kit/individual so once you have a Helix DNA kit for a person, you don’t need another one.

FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA) – https://www.familytreedna.com/ regular price, $79.00, but small sale price ($75.99) on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Family-Tree-DNA-Genetic-Ancestry/dp/B01NAQ1UCW?th=1 also on sale on GroupOn https://www.groupon.com/deals/family-tree-dna-1-1-national (type in DNA for search parameter and your location) on sale for $64 or $65 as the price varies every few days between the two prices with occasional drops below $64 for one or two day sales. Prices current as of mid-afternoon October 31, 2018. MyHeritageDNA sent me an e-mail for a discount on Y-37 and mtFullSequence for being a part of MyHeritageDNA; sale ends November 10, 2018.. I am not a paying subscriber to MyHeritage.

FindMyPast (they use LivingDNA kits – see LivingDNA below): https://www.findmypast.com/ancestry-dna-testing/ – regular price $99 as of mid afternoon of October 31, 2018. LivingDNA kits available on Amazon (temporarily unavailable on Amazon as of October 31, 2018), https://www.amazon.com/3-Living-DNA-Ancestry-Test/dp/B07HWVRPNZ/ – out of stock on Amazon since mid-October 2018 – checking daily, regular price $99.00 + $4.99 shipping. Added it to Sales Section because they accept free limited transfers from other DNA testing companies.

Geno 2.0 Next – On sale (since August 22, 2018, sale price has changed numerous times since August 2018, with no word on when sale ends) at Helix, National Geographic, GroupOn, and Amazon (price varies a bit between the various links below) https://www.helix.com/shop/national-geographic-geno-2-next-generation/ $69.95 + another $30.00 (free? as it’s not adding a kit price if I choose gift option as of October 31, 2018) if you need a Helix kit for an individual; regular price tends to run $149.95 or $199.95 which includes the Helix DNA kit cost – No word on when this sale price ends. If you order directly from National Geographic (Nat Geo), it’s on sale temporarily for $69.95. regular price $99.95 (regular price varies between $149.95 to $199.00 or sometimes $199.95 on Nat Geo website; if the person has previously tested with Helix for any other DNA test, don’t order from Nat Geo as you are paying for a kit that you don’t need). Amazon sale price is $99.99* with free shipping (Amazon price current as of October 31, 2018; tends to go back to around $99.95 on a regular basis when a sale ends) and is cheaper if you need a Helix kit for a person due to free shipping that Amazon offers. It is also on sale on GroupOn https://www.groupon.com/deals/n-helix-ancestry-kit  sale price $65.00 (occasionally cheaper by a few $)  Note: U. S. kits are processed by Helix (spit kit) and non-U.S. kits are processed by FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA) – cheek swab. Non-U.S. kits are showing an unavailable as of late September 2018 – no word on when they will become available again.

Helix – https://www.helix.com/collections/all/ – (direct link to Helix list of DNA tests offered); Amazon list of Helix tests doesn’t include all Helix items listed on the Helix site so you may need to search for specific tests or items if you are checking Amazon for something not in the above Amazon link; for DNA Passport, see above; Baby Glimpse:  the new URL only appears to offer one kit so you would need to order two tests and two kits for best results, one for each parent if both needed a kit: https://www.helix.com/products/humancode-babyglimpse test not on sale, but the Helix DNA kit is on sale for $40.00, regular price of DNA kit is $80 if you need a Helix DNA kit for an individual. On Amazon (check price as some days it’s a lot cheaper on Amazon and other days it’s cheaper on Helix; as of October 31, 2018, it’s cheaper on Amazon, but that can change any day; monitoring daily) with free shipping. From the description, it sounds like you can still compare if you order tests for both parents;  see DNA Passport or possibly Geno 2.0 above or embody below for cheaper way to get the kits as two DNA Passport kits + test from Helix would run you $89.99 x2 which is slightly cheaper than two kits using the Baby Glimpse link and you get DNA Passport results as a bonus. Going this route would cost you about the same, but you wouldn’t need to order the two Helix DNA kits for Baby Glimpse as you could use your DNA Passport Helix kits for the results. embodyDNA: https://www.helix.com/shop/lose-it-embodydna/ price $41.99 + $12 Helix kit (as of October 31, 2018) $20.00 if you need Helix DNA kit; regular price is $109.99 + $80.00 for Helix DNA kit; on Amazon (good sale price with free shipping as of October 31, 2018, but cheaper on Helix if you don’t need a Helix DNA kit; check pricing as Amazon frequently changes prices on a regular basis) with free shipping. GoalGetter: https://www.helix.com/shop/insidetracker-goalgetter/ sale price $130.00 + another $20.00 (last month the Helix kit offered with this test was $40) if you need Helix DNA kit; regular price $260.00 + $80.00 if you need Helix DNA kit – not seeing GoalGetter on Amazon. Rest of Helix DNA tests are regular price and Helix kits are regular price of $80.00 if you need a Helix DNA kit for an individual. However, Helix sometimes does limited sales so check any test you are considering to see if it’s on sale.

LivingDNAhttps://www.livingdna.com/ regular price is $99; LivingDNA or FindMyPastDNA available on Amazon – https://www.amazon.com/3-Living-DNA-Ancestry-Test/dp/B07HWVRPNZ/ (temporarily unavailable on Amazon as of October 31, 2018). LivingDNA offers free limited transfers, but you won’t get a few benefits if you go this route that you would get if you order the test directly from LivingDNA; they have indicated they will offer discounted upgrades for those who transfer and want the extra benefits, but no word on when or how much it will cost). For example, you won’t get haplogroups (mtDNA, Y-DNA – if male) and originally you wouldn’t get ethnicity results when I did a free transfer back in December 2017, but looks like they may be offering ethnicity results for the free transfers during the beta test (it’s not clear if you get to keep the ethnicity results after the beta test ends and it doesn’t appear those who upload after the beta test will get them without paying some kind of upgrade fee) after your transfer processes (estimated between August 8 – October 31, 2018 for the free transfers to process; they are rolling them out in small groups). You would have to order a kit from LivingDNA to get those benefits. They are partnering with FindMyPast and FindMyPast will be offering LivingDNA kits packaged with FindMyPastDNA (or some similar language) at some point, similar to how MyHeritageDNA uses FTDNA kits with MyHeritage logo on the package. They are slowly rolling out matching starting August 8, 2018 and plan on finishing by sometime in October 2018. Two of my three transferred results are showing one (1) or two (2) matches, but none have finished processing as of mid afternoon October 31, 2018.

MyHeritageDNAhttps://www.myheritage.com/dnasale price $59 (Halloween Sale) regular price $79; Amazon for $75.00 (still valid as of October 31, 2018; $10 off extra coupon available on Amazon) with free shipping and FTDNA‘s Amazon price is $75.99 (as of October 31, 2018). MyHeritageDNA accepts free transfers from FTDNA as well as from AncestryDNA, LivingDNA, and 23andMe (including v5 chip now). They will be making some major changes to those who upload raw data transfers after November 30, 2018); it won’t affect you if you upload your raw data before December 1, 2018 as they are grandfathering in people who upload raw data before December 1, 2018 and they will retain full access. See note above on FTDNA Y-37 DNA and mtFullSequence offer – good through November 10, 2018.

Silverberry Genomixhttps://silverberrygenomix.com/ sale over on website; Amazon link for all Silverberry Genomix products available, usually with free shipping – check to see if any kits are on sale on Amazon. You can also get the Basic Wellness Report (BWR) if you order a kit from Silverberry Genomix. Keeping in the Sale Section because you can get a limited BWR free.

TeloYearshttps://www.teloyears.com/home/ regular prices for most things, but a limited time sale price if you purchase 3 months of supplements for $169 – https://www.teloyears.com/home/products.html?uid=09290167Ecrf491i9, you get a free TeloYears Health kit which normally costs $99. TeloYears Health regular price $99; TeloYears Health + Ancestry $169 (regular price $199, but seems to be a standard discount as opposed to a sale price). They also do the TribeCode (see below) tests. Not available on Amazon.

End of Vitagene Tests

WeGenehttps://www.wegene.com/en/ free upload if you tested with 23andMe (including v5 chip) or AncestryDNA; regular price if you need to order a kit from WeGene (it’s a Chinese company and you would need to figure out the exchange rate if you buy a kit from them and also probably need a way to read Chinese since the main WeGene is in Chinese). For now, they don’t accept FTDNAMyHeritageLivingDNA, etc. It includes basic to intermediate haplogroup(s) – mtDNA and Y-DNA (males only).

DNA companies not offering sales at this time (October 30, 2018):

23andMehttps://www.23andme.com/ Ancestry (ethnicity) only kit regular price $99Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/23andMe-Ancestry-Personal-Genetic-Service/dp/B01LZ5K87Z/ – regular price $99.00 (October 31, 2018); Amazon has Ancestry + Health – https://www.amazon.com/23andMe-DNA-Test-Ancestry-collection/dp/B01G7PYQTM/  regular price $199.00  (last update check mid afternoon of October 31, 2018, but can vary every couple of days so check Amazon).

Ancestry DNAhttps://www.ancestry.com/dna/ – as noted in the Test on Sale section above, I don’t know if the price showing on my Ancestry account is one available to everybody or only sent to a group of members. $99 – regular price; as of  the date of this blog post, it’s on sale on Amazon (price can vary almost daily, click on the link or see the Sale Section above). Worth noting sometimes Ancestry sends individual e-mails to small groups of its users that includes DNA sale prices, but those tend to be limited to the people who received the e-mails. Also, check EBay as you can often find AncestryDNA kits cheaper on it, usually in the $45 – 55 range and shipping may or may not be free.

Not available on Amazon.

Helixhttps://www.helix.com/ – Amazon link: Amazon list of Helix tests some of the individual tests are on sale (check above for the handful on sale, includes Geno 2.0 Next, DNA Passport, Baby Glimpse (Helix kits discounted with DNA test regular price); embodyDNA; and GoalGetter, but you would need to check each one as the sales come and go on a regular basis.  For whatever reason, Helix doesn’t make it easy to view pricing for each test without opening each test individually which is a pain in the neck. This link, https://www.helix.com/store/all, gives you each test available, but you would need to check each test for current pricing. This link on my blog gives the Helix tests currently available on Helix: List of DNA Tests Offered Through Helix.

HomeDNAhttps://homedna.com/  Many of the below test kits are available at CVS Pharmacy, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart which would save you any applicable shipping costs, but would be subject to local sales tax. Also, the kits available locally usually are only for the testing kit and you would need to pay additional lab processing fees to HomeDNA when you send in the kit. (Note: if you order a kit directly from HomeDNA, as opposed to doing a raw data upload from another company, it will be a cheek swab); some of the tests may be available on Amazon and on GroupOn.

uBiomehttps://ubiome.com/consumer/explorer/  regular prices ranging from $89 to $399 with new option for ExplorerGutPlus*** https://shop.ubiome.com/pages/explorer-plus (4 SmartGut tests delivered during the year for $399 sale price – valid as of mid afternoon of October 30, 2018, regular price $799), depending on which tests you want run; sometimes goes on sale for a lot less. If you go with one of the subscription options, you get 20 – 25% discount; doesn’t apply to ExplorerGutPlus, but does apply to the other options in the first uBiome link above. This isn’t a regular genealogical DNA test like many of the others listed in this post. It checks between 1 and 5 sites for bacterial DNA (mouth, skin, nose, genital, gut). I have taken this test in the past when it was on sale as I was curious as to what it would show. Interestingly, some insurance companies will pay some of the cost. Click on this link: https://ubiome.com/clinical/smartgut/ and see if your insurance company will cover it. The Smart Gut kit is only one of the sites (gut, specifically, a stool sample). The beta ended so they are no longer writing off what’s not covered by insurance (ended mid-August 2018), but you can still check and see how much it would cost based on what your insurance covers. Shame they haven’t figured out a way to get insurance companies to cover the other four sites yet. I have done the Smart Gut kit a number of times over the last 3 years.

How does ExplorerPlus™ differ from SmartGut™?

ExplorerPlus is a wellness product that offers a broader view into your microbiome, providing more comprehensive information about your microbiome for wellness, using a patented combination of full metagenomic and marker-based sequencing.

SmartGut**** is a medical test ordered by a doctor and reimbursed by insurance, processed in our CLIA-licensed and CAP-accredited laboratory. SmartGut helps you and your doctor better understand your symptoms for gut conditions, including IBD, IBS, Crohn’s, and ulcerative colitis, providing you and your doctor valuable insights to help guide diagnosis and treatment. It also examines risk factors for health conditions like diabetes, obesity, and kidney stones.

****More comprehensive microbiome access also coming to SmartGut!

Veritashttps://www.veritasgenetics.com/  here’s a link to their 30x read DNA kit: https://www.veritasgenetics.com/mygenome. Regular price $999 for their 30x read. For additional information, here’s a link to the company’s PDF: https://www.veritasgenetics.com/sites/default/files/media/documents/VG_ProductOnePager_myGenome_email.pdf – Not available on Amazon.

WeGenehttps://www.wegene.com/en/ free upload if you tested with 23andMe (including v5 chip) or AncestryDNA; regular price if you need to order a kit from WeGene (it’s a Chinese company and you would need to figure out the exchange rate if you buy a kit from them). For now, they don’t accept FTDNA, etc. It includes basic to intermediate haplogroup(s) – mtDNA and Y-DNA (males only). Have WeGene in the Sale and non-Sale sections since you can order a kit for them at regular price if you don’t use AncestryDNA or 23andMe free upload option. Not available on Amazon. It’s also in the Sales Section since you can upload raw data from 23andMe (including v5 chip) and AncestryDNA free. Exchange rate was around $60 – 70 when I checked at different times.

YSEQ.net – https://www.yseq.net/ regular prices as YSEQ rarely does sales although they occasionally will do a sale. Will continue checking in case they do a sale for DNA Day. Prices range, depending on if you want an individual Y-DNA SNP or various STR ranges, mtDNA (several options) to a 15x read, 30xread, or 50xread full DNA test. 15x read: $740; 30x read: (+ $600 above 15x read price) ; 50x read: (+$1,430 above 15x read price) ; Other Extras (price is in addition to whatever read you order) add $90 if you want USB drive sent to you (otherwise, you can download your results through a link for no additional cost); Sanger extra Y-DNA results (up to 10 Y-DNA SNPs): $100; you receive 4 cheek swabs and you need to use all four and mail them back to YSEQ. Individual SNPs tend to run $18. YSEQ also offers Y-STR testing, mtDNA, and Haplogroup panels. It’s a good alternative to FTDNA in some ways, but doesn’t offer matching. It is a great way to cheaply verify Y-DNA comparisons between males who should share Y-DNA. For the full DNA test, they’re offering a 23andMe type autosomal raw data option that may be usable on sites that accept 23andMe transfers. Located in Germany. Cheek swab
