Congratulations to the Winners of the Helix Tour de France Contest and 25% Discount Code Good Until August 31, 2018

Helix ran the contest for 21 days last month during the Tour de France and I updated the blog post daily: Helix DNA July 2018 Contest. The 25% promo code is TDF25OFF. It doesn’t work if there is already a promo code on a DNA test. For example, Geno 2.0 Next has a promo code on it right now that covers the cost of the Helix DNA kit so Geno 2.0 Next is only $69.95 right now instead of the usual $199.95 that it often costs. The cost of the Helix kit is more than the 25% promo code would lower the cost. The good news is that you only need one Helix DNA kit per individual. They run the kit once and store the raw data. They offer numerous tests, mostly through third party vendors, and I am including a list of tests offered by Helix below the list of prizes.

Congratulations to Pat Falcingo of Ossing, New York who was the Grand Prize winner. Congratulations to Tour de France 2018 winner, Geraint Thomas.

Below is the list of Daily Winners for the contest along with the questions and answers for each day:

Tests offered by Helix; most are offered through third party vendors. You may need to sign up on Helix and the third party vendor websites. Note: some of the tests only work with iOS (Apple devices – iPhones, iPads, etc.). I included the below information in a new post: List of DNA Tests Offered Through Helix.

Helix Tests Offered:

Helix U.S. supplier of the Genographic Project Geno 2.0 Next Generation test among numerous other options. https://www.helix.com/shop Helix – prices may vary as individual tests go on or off sale and sometimes the Helix kit is free or reduced price ($20 or $30 instead of $80; also if you previously tested an individual with Helix, you generally don’t need to order another Helix kit – simply click on the already have Helix kit). If you want access to your raw data, Helix will sell it to you for $499. Spit kit.

As always, check the price before ordering as I removed the prices since they can vary with sales that pop up or end quickly.

Some of the tests only provide your result if you use iOS devices (Apple devices – iPhones, iPads, etc.) so check before ordering if you don’t have access to an iOS device. For third party tests, you will usually need to sign up on the third party site to access your results. Helix will give you a link on its site that takes you to the third party site.

In general, if the Helix DNA kit isn’t on sale, it’s $80 for an individual kit. If you already have a kit or have ordered a kit, then you should click on the checkbox that says I already have or registered my Helix DNA kit. Also, sometimes, a particular test will have a sale on the Helix DNA kit which is typically $20 or $30, but occasionally free. NOTE: the discounted kit price only applies to the test it shows up for. However, once you order the kit, you should be able to do the checkbox saying you have a Helix kit as you won’t need another one for the same person. For example, DNA Passport had the Helix DNA kit on sale (still on sale as of August 25, 2018) for $20 instead of the usual $80. If you wanted to order the BabyGlimpse kit (its two kits are also on sale for $100 – you get two kits so it’s $50 each as July 20, 2018), it would be a few cents cheaper to order two DNA Passport tests and Helix DNA kits (one for mother, one for other), then order the BabyGlimpse test, and click on the already have Helix DNA kits for one partner, then click on the new link and say already have a Helix DNA kit; few more steps, but worth saving the extra money). For a few cents less, you get two BabyGlimpse and two DNA Passport tests as well as two Helix DNA kits if you need them.

For any individual, you only need one Helix DNA kit as the company processes the DNA once. If you order additional tests, they take the original DNA raw data results and pull the appropriate parts of the DNA from the original processing to apply to the new test.

Here’s the general Helix list on their website, but you need to click on each item as it doesn’t show the pricing for them on this link: https://www.helix.com/store/all (lists all the DNA related items Helix offers). For simplicity sake, I included a link to the test below and the link to the company for the third party tests.  I try and include any on sale in the monthly DNA Sale post I make for the month and I usually make the current monthly DNA sale post sticky.

Ancestry:
Neanderthal: Neanderthal by Insitome check the link for the current cost; on Amazon.

Discover which of your unique traits may have been inherited from our Neanderthal ancestors—like muscle growth, skin color, and cognitive ability—and why they matter today.

Here are my Neanderthal results from Helix compared to my results from several other companies: https://upsdownsfamilyhistory.wordpress.com/2018/06/09/neanderthal-dna-comparison-between-three-companies/ It’s really four tests now as I added my Neanderthal results from Geno 2.0 Next.

Geno 2.0 Next: Geno 2.0 Next by National Geographic (Nat Geo; link for Nat Geo is to ordering the kit directly from National Geographic) $199.95, sometimes on sale as low as $69.99 + $80.00 for Helix kit with one time where they lowered it to $49.99, but occasionally Helix DNA kit as low as $30.00 (kit is generally free if you use the National Geographic link to purchase the test, but they often charge more than Helix to offset the kit cost); also check Amazon or EBay  as they sometimes offer cheaper prices than Helix.

Discover the migration paths your ancient ancestors followed, and learn the details of your ancestral makeup.

Geno 2.0 Next is processed by Helix (spit kit) for U.S. residents and by FamilyTree DNA (FTDNA – cheek swab) for non-U.S. residents. It includes basic to intermediate haplogroup results (mtDNA for males and females, and Y-DNA for males although the Y-DNA can be a lot deeper than 23andMe’s Y-DNA haplogroup estimate). Before National Geographic switched to Helix for U.S. kits, FTDNA processed Geno 2.0 and earlier kits.

You can view my Geno 2.0 Next results at Geno 2.0 Next vs. Geno 2.0 Ethnicity Comparison where I compare Geno 2.0 (FTDNA) and Geno 2.0 Next (Helix).
